ANG Pilot Slot

This has probably been mentioned but had to ask. I contacted the ang recruiter because i did 6 years active and was thinking ang for a pilot slot. Now he told me that it's almost certain that those that get pilot slots in the reserves and ang where active duty pilots before because it cost to much to send a person through pilot training. Any thoughts or other clarifications on this?

Teddy, go to those sites FrogFlyer listed, but just browse through the forums for like 2 years before posting anything or they'll rip you a new one for being the new guy and not searching.

Word on the streets is it helps a ton if you were already a pilot, but there are tons of units that hire newbies. Have a good GPA, test scores, and be cool in the interview and you'll be in like flint.

Make sure you talk to the right person. The normal ANG recruiter does not typically handle pilot spots and may tell you anything. All the guard units advertise their pilot openings. If they are open to non-rated individuals and are willing to send someone to SUPT they will say so. Also, there is a specific contact at the unit for information regarding these spots.

I absolutely, <positively> can't stand recruiters who say what they think and are wrong. I mean, if your job is to attract people to your company, you would certainly know your job and know when you need to refer applicants to the experts, right? Apparently not in the military because I hear about recruiter horror stories all the time! I also can't stand it when I hear a person who has never flown an airplane tell someone else that they can't fly because they wear glasses...

My advice to anyone who has not discovered that the air is rather 78% Misconception, is to talk to an expert. If you want to be a teacher, talk to a teacher. If you want to work in the wast management industry, talk to a trash-hauler.

If you want to be a military pilot. Talk to a military pilot. They've done it, so they won't fill your head with BS.

Of course you're here, so you've already taken the right step :)

that's great advice. I've heard the recruiter horror stories too, but they usually ######## you to get you to "sign the dotted line" (it's acutally solid) and then are like "ohhh uhh you cant fly" kidna deal.

but falcon, the air is 82.37% misconception. check your sources ;)
