I do remember reading either Stan notes, or an email a year or two about it, or both. But I guess that is where my interest stopped, since all I could conclude is "why are people doing the MX test?"

Are you talking about when you have the engines running (hence the bleed switches off) or at the gate with the engines off?

For the same reason they go NORM to ALT, They think it’s too loud and want it quieter during passenger boarding.

ahhhh ok, well I guess that at least makes sense why someone might. But I mean there are also some quick plane swaps with a planned 45-50 mins on the ground, N gate all the way over to D gates or something, where there is no chance you're running that or even the fire warning loop test out of earshot of pax. Seems like a weird phobia

But you might forget to turn the engine bleeds back on!!!

I like to use APU for bleed air on single engine taxi out if it’s hot (engine bleeds off, packs auto). When you go to start #1, what do you do with the bleeds/packs prior to twisting the IGN switch for the start? I reconfigure so the #2 Eng bleed is feeding the right pack, ISOL closed, and then turn off the left pack. Our FM never specifically addresses this if we use APU bleed for Single taxi out.

It’s also a great way to have it configured for max cooling taxing out.

The poor classic couldn’t run both packs off the APU at the same time. It was like flying a hot portapotty around. At least it flew and landed a bit nicer.

If you configure a NG or MAX right you should be able to hang meat in the thing so if it isn’t cooling write it up.

Grinds my gears when people don’t get broke things fixed. If it isn’t blowing 50F in the duct in max cooling it’s not working right.

I’m getting old and cranky, plus commuting from a crew base for the last two years is really starting to bug me when it comes to hot airplanes.

At least he’s Virgin. I am too, but I actually like the Guppy. It’s guys who were hired post merger KNOWING they applied to “Proudly all Boeing” who then complain about flying a Boeing.


And newsflash to anyone here, the 717 and 321 are so gone. I can’t believe anyone thinks air group is going to be anything but NG/MAX for the NB mainline fleet. HAL gets 18ish 321s and somehow people are convinced we go Airbus. We gave away (cancelled) an order with guaranteed slot delivery for 30 Airbus NEOs. We are going all in on MAX10s.


Enough it Skaning. And please SET the MAXes. :)

that’s why we run the single pack in auto so we can keep the single fan running, while on APU,
for best cooling.

the same dudes with guppy hate, would’ve been doing anything to fly one a decade or so ago when they were wide eyed newbies.

and yet, they join a guppy-only airline.

i mean, one has to play the cards theyre dealt. No use being miserable. At the end of the day, you're flying, making good money, and now have the potential for expanded horizons; since while you may have been acquired, but now, you’ve acquired someone else.
