Battle of Britain (1969)

Things an old guy thinks about:

The Battle of Britain movie featured planes that were only 25 years old.

My father flew with a couple of WWII vets in Vietnam.

When I was a kid, most WWII vets were still alive. My Godfather flew Spitfires and he didn’t seem very old old.

My high school buddy retired years ago … as an admiral.

When I started in the USAF, many O-5 and up aviators had the Vietnam service ribbon on their ribbon rack, as did every flag officer you’d see in the chain of command pics in the squadron building. Squadron top 2 were Vietnam vets from Linebacker, as were some in Group
Level and up. Many, many people had the Kuwait Liberation Medal too. Slowly, the Vietnam service ribbons began to disappear. Now, the Kuwait medal is becoming very rare to see on a uniform.
