UAL CEO said he uses this hiring tactic to vibe check job candidates

Gotta watch how you use the word 'cake' these days. it's like walking up to a food truck and asking "You got any Tortas today?" before the conversation gets all weird! LOL
I'm going to need at least a semblance of explanation. I like carne asada tortas, especially with a slice of avocado rather than guacamole. Please elaborate. I just want a sandwich and I'm not aware of the "secret" menu.

When I used to help out with interviews at JetsuiteX there was an evening social at the end of the day, with light refreshments and an open bar. It was very generous of them, but you really got to see everyone's true colors when the guard came down in a more informal setting, and a couple of beers in. A lot of the hiring decisions were made at that event and it was an important part of the interview process. Like you guys already said, the good and the bad came through much more clearly. I still remember my evening social when I was a candidate. My main worry is that everyone seemed like a bunch of cool surfer dudes and I'm as nerdy as can be! I guess they must have liked me anyway because I got it in the end.

I'd love to get back into doing interviews, but don't know how competitive I'd be since I've only ever been a regular line pilot since starting at Southernjets.

"Cakes" are the new Instagram model and twink word for having a round and very voluptuous ass. The kind natural to black people, that Hollywood and the modeling industry, for has for decades decried and called disgusting and undesirable in terms of beauty. While preferring the flat earth type of none ass... (we can totally say ass here) of types like Taylor Swift. Black features are culturally appropriately in now, we're vogue. Full collagen lips on white girls, fillers. BBL's and of course... cakes. Cakes, which originally was AAVE, but like "woke" has gone mainstream. But I digress.

Dunno what happened, being born in in AZ., I've been around a lot of white boys, in my life, all with run flat butts. But now at least in IG land and the gay world, all of the twinks and twunks magically now have "cakes." It's comical, you just kind of have to laugh at the whole thing.

Anyway you asked @derg was being vague. I wasn't going to be. So, I answered your question. Like the answer or not, can't handle the truth of the answer, or what not. Whatever. But don't let the social world truth of my post get this thread dragged to the hell of the lav.

So, back to vibe checking. Please.

Pretty sure I saw a job posting on Dnet for pilot interviewers yesterday

Had a supervisor back in the day, Staff Sergeant Witt, who thought a young-buck such as me (with no real life experience) ought not have been engaged to a gal in Maine at such a tender age.

His approach, successfully resisted, was pretty simple: "How can you know you like white meat better if you never tried the dark?" And, damn, he was persistent. Took me to my first strip club/bar at a tender age and mocked me later after I said "No, I'm engaged" to an obvious set-up. Hell'uva guy, though, and I remember him with fondness some fifty + years later. He's likely dead now but still lives younger and strong in memory.

I remember him every single time I cook a chicken thigh instead of a breast and, sometimes, wonder what might have been.

Seems very reasonable. Outside aviation, that's how it is anyway. I have the easiest relatively high paying job in the world right now, and everyone I work with is super chill and funny since the one requirement is being super chill and getting along with a wide variety of people from around the world. Hawaiian Airlines pilots stood out to me as seemingly fitting this metric, always thought it'd be the coolest place to fly until the Redwood logging company came along.

United is by far what seems like the best job to me tbh. Like a more professional and elegant version of the Southwest of yesteryear. That company changed a ton in the last decade, all for the better IMO. Gotta keep that going somehow.

Sure is, found it this morning, thanks for the info. I threw my name in the hat, let's see how it goes. Normally I've always been a "show up, fly, be a ghost, and make sure nobody knows your name on the 4th floor" kind of guy. Hopefully it doesn't work against me.

Good luck! I tried to apply this morning and it was already closed. Gonna see if they will accept a dummy like me as a 320LCP haha.

I haven’t done interviews in a few months due to fleet planning, so maybe things have changed…but this isn’t exactly how it works. The position he’s talking about is greeter position. If we are there for interviews we have a chance of working that position instead of doing interviews that day. You meet and greet the applicants, give them a tour, and a little presentation on what to expect. I really enjoy that position as it’s a fun change of pace. Do we have veto power? No…but will the pilot interviewer / hr rep ask us for input if they noticed something? Sure.
The “ greeter “ that was there when I interviewed was awesome. Everyone else came off like they were called in on Christmas…

I 100% believe a pilot would be inept enough to do that. One of my friends does interviews at my airline and said he had a candidate recently who sat spread eagle and scratched his balls non stop for the entire interview.

He did not get the job.
I knew a guy in college that would constantly touch himself through his pants. That is some weird ass nervous energy.
