Cherokee's Delta Rants from "Alaska Hawaiian Merger"

So what are your plans this weekend?

Weekends over. :)

Tomorrow is vacation trading open for 2026.

Imma be hitting “trade” like it owes me money :)

Spring break end of March / early April. And trying to get August vac days. Plan is London and Dubai. I assume hit up London in August and Dubai for spring break, because London will be too cold in spring and Dubai too hot in Aug. Thoughts?

Also open to any must-do’s.

Skip the UAE and have Derg take you to Saudi!

I really feel dirty defending CC's point, but I'd also say he's not wrong. Every other carriers seats minors next to a parent in Basic Economy. It's strange that Delta doesn't. It would be like them charging business class passengers for booze on an international flight, when everyone else doesn't.

Sort of unrelated entirely, but long before i was airline pilot, we were flying home for the holidays on an airline that starts with a U, and on a short layover in HOU. Sitting at the gate, they proceeded (with no explanation) to cancel the flight, immediately re-name the flight some other random flight number, and then reticketed every passenger at the gate. We had originally purchased seats with our 1 year old being next to one of us (cant remember if it was me or her), in his own purchased and reserved seat…..by that, i mean we selected our seats when we purchased the tix. Well, when they shuffled everyone around, mini me ended up 10 rows behind us in a middle seat. I asked the gate agents, and they just said to talk to the flight attendants, so I did that, and they were busy boarding and entirely unhelpful. Eventually they just told me to ask people next to us if they would switch seats. Initial person was very rude about it, and it was the most angering task I’ve ever had to do on a flight. Finally someone said they would swap. Completely unbelievable, and i have to this day, never set foot on another airplane that has a name that starts with U on the side.

See, isn’t that just a better way to feel a sense of community?

Have a great time in Dubai and London!

Check out the Grenadier pub in London. It's walking distance to Harrod's and makes a great Beef Wellington. I really liked their Fish and Chips too. It's a cute historic place and since you're into cars, it's where they came up with the idea of the Ineos Grenadier SUV, hence the name of the car. I stumbled upon it just exploring around waiting for an AOG before Ineos was a thing and got lucky they had a little table left way in the back. I recommend a reservation

Delta is saying put your crying baby somewhere else if you don't want to pony up, and I appreciate that. Even as someone with a 1 year old. I get it. There are enough non-family fares to fill the jets.

It actually doesn’t matter. BE is a fare class, not a seat class. You can end up with any Econ seat.

@derg heres AA, our actual example.

Same exact flight we bought on.

BE - most restrictive.

Notice the back is $18 per seat, and the back is fully open.

AA guarantees family seating. They could easily have assigned 4 seats together in the back.

Instead, we got:

Row 12 pricing shows $51 each. And it’s actually Preferred seating at the front of the plane…

All AA “guaranteed” on a BE ticket are kids seated with adults, and they had the entire backside of the plane to do it. But they put us in the front, on a BE fare.

My experience with JetBlue was similar. We had BE fares and the wife and kids got similar extra space seats in the front, auto assigned to keep family together.

Pretty much everyone does guaranteed family seating on BE fares except Delta, Allegiant, and Spirit.

I should have stopped you earlier before you put all this work in.

Dude, I really don’t care about the topic anymore. I’m just going to be honest with you for your own mental health.

Enjoy American or whatever the point was.

Have you tried applying this energy contacting the Air Line, or just come here to get your dopamine hit for another thread about Delta?

Another option would be to get a seat on the board and do your best Ganhdi. “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.”

My mom had a similar situation on Continental from IAH-MCI back when the planes had a brass ass in 1985. She was traveling to KC with my 2yo sister so she could see and play in snow. Drama at gate happens similar to yours, my sister gets put several rows from mom, same "ask a seatmate" solution, same dick'ish pax reluctant to trade. So mom goes with it. Tells the guy she'll probably only cry if her ears hurt. Plops Sara down in the seat and proceeds to hand the guy baby wipes, explain she might get airsick and puke but not to worry about it just wipe up what he can, etc. He caved and switched.

What my sister doesn't understand is mom wasn't bluffing. Like all thinking adults I am sure she relished the idea of a child-free flight.
