Seems to be an industry thing. Salary was never talked about, anywhere I worked outside of aviation for 25 years.

In this business it’s a normal thing to talk openly about money. With astonishing tone deafness among others who don’t make nearly as much.

It’s baffling. And rude as hell.

I will say, I don’t like the blanket “never talk about salary” because it’s an old fashioned way to keep labor from getting together and going “hey wait a minute, we’re getting screwed here!”
That said, asking people to read social cues and not talk about money in front of van drivers, rampers, etc who are making way less is apparently too much to ask. That’s then it gets into “dude, read the room” territory.
 
So back to bags... anybody have any experience with that Travelpro Multipurpose tote?

Americans have problems talking about politics, religion, money and sex because they do not regularly talk about politics, religion, money, and sex.

Eh, I think the problem is more nuanced. I think a lot of Americans conflate politics and religion, blame money and sex for the politics and religion not going the way they want. If they had more sex, they'd likely be a little less pissed about the lack of money, and thus wouldn't be so wrapped around the axle on the politics and religion. The problem is that the politics and religion get in the way of the sex, so they blame money and sex for the sex they aren't having with the partners of their choice.

To my vodka-fueled way of thinking at 2 am, anyway.

I feel like our people love them some straight time 100+ hrs. Like WTF. I do think min ALV will hit the next contract, but there won't be any language about premium because people here don't speak that language. "HELL YEAH I'LL GRAB THAT 2 DAY FOR 10:30 GOBBLESS"

It feels flimsy. Like, really, really flimsy. The handle flexes and flops all over the place and feels plastic.
The wheels don't roll as smoothly as the LW roller wheels with roller bearings. In fact, they make a horrible humming noise and start to add a ton of drag as I get "on the step."
There is no kickplate, so mounting curbs feels like the whole thing is going to fall apart.
It doesn't maneuver well. My LuggageWorks is way heavier, but maneuvers incredibly nimbly by comparison. In fact, putting my "spicy bag" on it makes it feel like a dump truck.
It doesn't fit more than my LW. The compression thing is gimmicky, relative to the LW's ability to just stretch out to take whatever I stuff in it.
It feels very "luxury"—that is, made with cheap components but a pretense of glamor.
Honestly, it feels like a travelpro.

Everything is plastic on it. I already have red scuffing all over the bottom of the handle holders from going up a curb.

What on earth? I could have bought three LW bags for the price of this thing after my flight crew discount. I don't really care that it has a lifetime warranty if it sucks.

Is this thing going to break in? Can I replace the wheels with roller wheels like the LW?

I found it time to finally retire my LW bag as I don’t live the RJ pilot/commuter lifestyle anymore. A friend has the BR setup and like you I found the handle to be ridiculously flimsy and the rest of the bag to be of similar quality. It seemed like while rolling it around it could collapse into itself at any moment. I don’t think the quality justifies the price for that bag. I’m pretty sure you could pick up something similar at Ross for 100 bucks.

I ended up joining team Tumi. There are some good industry discounts on those bags out there and I think the quality is much better than Briggs & Riley. It’s definitely not a tank like my old bag, but I think it will hold up well over the next several years.

Anybody want to buy a recently refurb’d LW stealth? 😆

This would be more work than most would take on, but I’d do a little sheet metal work to it. Drill and tap for a couple cap screws from McMaster-Carr and fabricate some replaceable “feet” for it.

Also, now that it's a few weeks later and I've been away from work (so glorious) for a bit, I also want to point out that it's not inappropriate to point out to (especially) our IFS colleagues that nothing in the PWA is there out of the Company's benevolence, but via collective bargaining, including but not limited to profit sharing in the current form. Work rules are expensive things. Add pay items are glorious.

"...because that's what we negotiated/worked out via the process. I think you should get paid more too. Anyway, here's an AFA card."

Oh, I have a funny story about an FA flipping out about the positive space on the second commute thing when she heard a conversation between me and another pilot.
