Air Canada FAs on strike

Just wait, at some point that absolutely ridiculous paycheck you get just becomes a bigger number on a bigger stack of cash and you kind of stop looking at restaurant menu prices and just pay cash instead of playing stupid credit card reward program games.
derg where are you taking me for dinner? Someplace where there's a cooking surface in-or-near the table and they're known for their mai tais.

I've been asked by folks over the years about career changing out of aviation to something else. Unless you're pre-dialed in, or have financial cover from a spouse, inheritance or lotto ticket, it's bad news to attempt to go to school in any kind of professional field. Once past about 30, there is simply no way to recoup the losses. and by 40 you'll be in a hole so deep you'll need to work to 72.

I'm talking anything medical, PhD or law related.
Our lawyers talk me out of law school regularly. Unless someone else is paying for it, it isn’t happening, and nobody seems interested.

That and even with all this book learning I’m still going to be arguing with pilots so why bother, etc.

Depending where you live I can see it. I never thought I'd be paying what I do to live where I do. By all means we do well and don't have any extravagant expenses, but I could easily see how someone who makes objectively "good" money could almost be struggling, or at least not necessarily living large like they would have 10 years ago.
This operation can run on 65 hours at 717B rates. This operation is also no fun whatsoever at 65 hours on 717B rates.

I've always budgeted on min guarantee. Anything above that is either savings, paying off debt, or some fun money. But the budget includes squirreling away money to investing.

Yeah. I’ve paid off my move back to the west coast, and aside from a wild splurge I took for vacation everything is paid off and then some month to month. I get to take my cat to the cardiologist (!!!) this week, but that’s already budgeted. Thanks, RES spills aka poor man’s green slips!

Right now it’s car payment in lieu of “more” savings but 1) have you seen how lousy savings rates are? and 2) the meeting with my CFP went “you can spend more money, go buy a new car.”

Yeah. Gotta remind myself to enjoy things a little too. I want a good, solid emergency fund and retirement, but if I get hit by a bus tomorrow I can't take that money with me.

I’m sure @derg will agree but make sure you’ve done your estate planning. I’m meeting for that tomorrow; dying intestate is a disservice and massive annoyance to those who survive us whomever they are.

I’m not going anywhere but in the event Sound Transit do run me over (or, more likely, I am struck by a lavatory truck while wondering what exactly is coming from the drain mast) the stuff, such as it is, needs to go somewhere, and I’d prefer a minimum of litigation for the loved ones.

Keith dies without an estate plan and it was not fun.

At all.

And that guy was the statue of David painted dark brown so he probably thought he had more time, just like everyone without an estate plan assumes.

derg took me out to a really great dinner once in BC. I didn't mean for him to, but he still did :) I feel like there were oysters, maybe even our own Taylor farms product from down here, and copious amounts of wine/cocktails involved.

Did he give you a good night smooch?
