Actually Class 1, the one in January was 1 Skywest, 3 FPS, 2 Internals, and the rest Internals.

I agree with this, and you can replace FOS with Flightkeys as it makes the same point. What I will say is that typically Envoy candidates tend to get through training quicker than the other candidates, and the longest trainees tend to be internal hires with little dispatch experience. But it's not an exact science and no hiring manager at any Airline is going to get every hire right and will overlook some people. It's no different than a Pro Sports Draft, where no GM ever gets the draft perfect. In fact I have known internals who have become great dispatchers, I know regional dispatchers who have been good who didn't come from Envoy, but I also know Regional Dispatchers I would never hire at a mainline, and I have also seen Envoy dispatchers struggle as new hires at mainline, and also experienced dispatchers just wash out at the Major.

i mean it makes sense that they'd pick 11 from their wholly owned. They use FK, they know AA culture, AA doesnt have to strain itself to get a good idea who is deserving and who isn't because they can easily get an honest assessment on work ethic/other factors (or what they think is one) from multiple people.

That is pretty hard to compete with. Though they did hire 7 non envoy people.. and 4 of them appear to have some level of mainline experience, so i would ask the mainline people who didn't get in: were those 7 mainline employees were worse choices too?

I’m not sure anyone knew there was a pool. AA likes to be mysterious and keep us all guessing and on our toes. Makes things more exciting and keeps the spark alive. But yes there is a pool. They sent out an email saying they will be pulling from a pool leftover from the last hiring round for the next 2 classes. If your status never changed to “not selected” you were probably in the pool. If it did change to that, well, better luck next opening. Which hopefully will be this Fall or early next year.

Piedmont isn't the only one with veto power. When I was at PSA, we got them to complain to mainline about how many they pull from Envoy vs. the other two. Then, when I applied, mainline wanted to take 12 of us from PSA for the first 2 classes. PSA told them they could only have 6. They put the rest of us in the pool. Thankfully, some of us got pulled from the pool. But I suspect that will hurt future chances for PSA dispatchers to be considered. It is very frustrating, and just plain wrong imo, that working for a wholly-owned can actually make it harder to get hired at mainline. But, unfortunately that's what we're stuck with.
