Back when we stopped wearing hats one of our Capt’s got stopped by an ACP. Conversation went something like this…
ACP: Where’s your hat?
Capt: In my bag
ACP: Why are you not wearing it?
Capt: It’s too small
ACP: Why not order a larger size?
Capt: Then it wouldn’t fit in my bag..

Edit: thinking further about it, the guys I'm jealous about are the amphib 206 guys who get to wear shorts and topsiders in summer. That alone is almost worth putting in an application.

I would love to have the ability to show every airline non-conformer a video of their own interview at said company.

Airline: we expect you, when on the job, to straight up shirt cock it at all times.

Interviewee: sir, not only will I shirt cock it once hired, I will shirt cock it now.

Do they actually ask that in the interview? I've never interviewed at a legacy, but I can't say I've ever been asked or told that in any job interview I've has. Granted, that's probably because you'd generally assume dress code compliance goes without saying, and prospective employers probably judge this by how you dress for the interview rather than your answers to their questions, but I can't say I've heard if the scene you describe happening in an interview.
 
I like hats. Maybe it's because I'm bald but I think it completes the uniform well, especially during blazer season. Recently I flew with a few guys that didn't wear it, at varying seniority levels. All but one had it on their bag, none of them were based in Atlanta. They were otherwise professional and well put together so I didn't bring it up. I'm just a line guy, not the hat police, but it made me wonder if it's more prevalent in other bases. I also like beards and wish they would allow them one day. Maybe it's because I'm European but i look much better with one.
 
My hat is my uniform collection bowl in my closet at home. Epaulets, ID, pen, tie go straight in there after trip. It serves its purpose.

I know Your People. Every time I run into a bunch of Euros in the Customs line in whatever God-forsaken Asian gateway, they have 1) Tiny little toy hats, 2) Beards, 3) Blazers, and 4) A number of pilots (?) with a confusingly small number of stripes ON their blazers who also look to be about 12 years old.

Meanwhile our most junior three-striper is older than your Captain, we're all wearing something with a hood, and we all look like we slept in a drier.
