Insight:
United purchased land near DIA.
The land will be used for expansion of the FTC.
There is too much land for just that one use.
There is a master infrastructure plan that essentially includes a corporate HQ and NOC move.
They could get the tax breaks they want from the city of Chicago/Illinois and sell the additional land.
They could not get the tax breaks they want and make the move.

The Willis lease does not expire until 2032, so it's unlikely there will be any sort of HQ move before then. Or they could end up just staying in Chicago, as you said. It's also possible, although unlikely, that the HQ could relocate to DEN and the NOC would stay in Arlington Heights.

As with all things...time will tell.
 
Saying this as a Denver based commuter, I’d love to see that come to fruition, as my apartment is walking distance from the land they purchased.

That however, does not seem to be the sentiment of other people in the NOC though (understandably so). So then what about splitting operations up like NK does? Well, a split NOC would be cool but management seems to really be a fan of having everyone under the same roof again now that Willis is only the backup center.

That being said, the amount of money and effort that has been spent in the remodel of the offices in Willis, and the fact that the NOC is brand new; dissuades me from thinking a Denver move would occur anytime in the next 5 years.

There’s way to many unknowns at this point.

Like you, I would love to see UA move its NOC to DEN. If I had to guess, I'd say that it is unlikely but not extremely so. However, one thing I am sure of is that the preference of the NOC employees on where they like to live will not be a factor in management's decision on whether to stay or move. This isn't unique to UA. Management never cares, and they figure if a lot of people retire or quit, they can be replaced easily enough.

C’est la vie in corporate America unfortunately. Just ask any HA dispatcher.

Yup, this is my take too. I can want whatever I want. But in the end, management does not care where I want to be, and will do whatever they think is in the company's best interest. So, I try not to bitch and moan about it too much. It won't change anything, and you sound like a whiner. It is what it is, regardless of our feelings. We can all choose whether or not to continue being employed by UA if they do move us.

This is the top of the iceberg. Chicago and Illinois is long known to put a boot on big business for tax purposes. UA the NOC out of Chicago proper, but it is still in Cook County, whose outlook to business is the same as Chicago. Makes 100% sense to move, only question is why Houston isn't being considered, that would be a win-win all around, IMO.

If UA lured the dispatchers into giving up this protection, it strongly suggest the relocation option is in their cards.
