Starliner Test Flight

Supposed to land at White Sands, NM; however one of its alternate landing sites is the large playa south of Willcox, AZ just east of me, and Dugway Proving Ground, UT is the other alternate.

Yeah but Elon is Teh Hitlar and stuff so we have no choice. And while they don't have a plan, that "will come as soon as we can provide it", which I think we can all agree is a relief!

I think the Atlas IV is still using a Russian rocket motor. That doesn’t sound like a good idea, does it?

Apparently a faulty toilet valve. They're waiting for a replacement. Might seem inconsequential to those of us not riding up into space, but to the two people getting ready to spend a bit of time in very close quarters with no possible escape it probably seems like the sort of thing that should be figured out before launch if possible. Would they have scrubbed the launch back in '60s for it? I don't know, but the documentary "The Right Stuff" informed me that astronauts were allowed to relieve themselves in their spacesuits if necessary, just saying...

if given a choice id rather not piss my pants for the Boeing corporation

The Wrong Stuff (in your boots)

They successfully launched this morning for their crewed test flight. I wish them nothing but a successful mission. Is Boeing now a villain in the zeitgeist? I can't keep up with the ebbs and flows anymore.

Trying to figure out popular opinion these days is impossible. Everyone wants the Starliner to succeed but they hate Boeing. SpaceX is reliably delivering cargo to space almost daily but Musk is persona non grata. Some folks have Teslas and hate themselves for loving their cars. Was twitter that important? I never used it so my opinion is sort of from the bleachers. Boeing is way over budget and late. I don't have the numbers but I'd suspect SpaceX is costing you, as a taxpayer, less than NASA and the Starliner. I'm looking forward to being proven wrong.

You’re arbitrarily conflating unnecessarily.

(Not often I can get three adjacent words that total eleven syllables. Thanks for that.)

I hope you understand that my post had no serious intention, it was not meant to be educational or instructional. It was meant as humor. If everyone's a devil who're the angels?

Glad they got it airborne finally. I imagine it will be a successful first. That engineering team is pretty solid.

Checks notes, ahhh more helium leaks after being airborne.

Damn glad it got off the pad safely, now it’ll be curious as to what the helium leaks mean both short & long term.
