I'm just curious how he was 2 minutes away from needing more fuel but didn't say anything until he was frustrated. And if you have to go back for fuel, you have to go back for fuel.

There are so many in this industry that take every little operational challenge as a personal insult.

Granted they were present when I was at the regionals, but I enjoy working with the forever regional generation because I don’t think you could have made it through that much dysfunction for that long and come out with your sanity intact. We all just kind of expect the worst thing to happen at the worst possible time and then laugh when it does.

Also, you should always know how close you are to min-fuel to avoid something like this. That said, I think he was bluffing.
 
He’s really gonna become unhinged when he finds out they are just playing war games at MSN with the high volume of Mil traffic they have….

Very rarely do flights “just” have taxi fuel before hitting min TO. At our shop, taxi and extra are the two numbers on top of MinTO fuel.

I AAsume they do the same.

Even if not, there’s still some extra/contingency on top of Burn, Alternate, Reserve.

“Hey dispatch, we used all our 400 lbs taxi fuel. Can you concur and move some extra fuel to taxi to lower our minTO so we can go? We are #1.”
 
I would. The voice at the beginning is different from the voice arguing. Logic would dictate voice who advised holding short initially was the FO. Also, let's face it. Who's more likely to go unhinged on the microphone, an FO or a CA?
Yeah I just listened to it and probably right, I was only able to read transcript before. However it’s just not old guys who are angry on the radio. Some millineums (sic) are so hopped up on social media outrage that it bleeds over, so don’t assume it’s just a bunch of angry captains out there!
 
The last one I flew with had a 10 minute long safety brief, including one about PEDs and sterile cockpit and intentional noncompliance. At cruise, he whips out a personal iPad and starts playing some game, while streaming music to his headset. Good talk, skipper.

What in the world is a safety brief? Are we talking about jump seating? Incentive rides?

Is this a commercial airport thing?
 
I went into NJK once to pick up some mil pax, in the middle of some sort of large force exercise going on. As we are getting ready to start, the fighter and attack force starts taxiing out for launch. The other pilot I’m with starts bitching up a storm to me in the cockpit about the delay that ground just gave us. I had to remind him that1. There’s a tactical jet surge launch in progress, and if he’s worried about fuel, I guarantee they are more fuel critical than we are. And 2. It’s their airfield. Plain and simple.

Being yelled at by grown-ass adults over my calling little Sneau Flayke offside was great prep for the workplace.
