Southwest Havana

We don't have one that involves those masks.

So maybe I am confused, but what did they do wrong in this case?

Ya I was gonna say, every, and by every mean both planes I've flown in the military have had a 100% ALL for smoke and fumes, but that includes all crew, and if there's pax the loadmasters take care of them as we start getting down toward 10.

None of the 4 planes I've flow under part 121 have had a memory item outside of the two pilots getting the mask on and then running the checklist.

So, I'm well behind on the bell curve of knowledge here, still thinking that one had to go thru Canada or some other port of entry in order to fly to Cuba.

I don't mind being mocked here, but one could, for real, fly a US airline from the USA to visit these days? If so, I think that's awesome and about time!

Dunno if this is still true, from el articulo:
To enter Cuba, the U.S. government requires every person to acknowledge they are eligible to travel to Cuba under one of 12 approved categories or a general license.

The 12 categories include
  • family visits
  • official business of the U.S. government, foreign governments and certain intergovernmental organizations
  • journalistic activities; professional research or meetings
  • educational activities and exchanges
  • religious activities
  • public performances, clinics, workshops, athletics/other competitions and exhibitions
  • humanitarian projects
  • support for the Cuban people
  • activities of private foundations, research or educational institutes
  • exportation, importation or transmission of information or information material
  • certain authorized export transactions.
If you are traveling under a general license, you must document your full-time schedule of activities consistent with your designated license category. The U.S. government has up to five years after your trip to request this schedule.

It is a constantly changing process, but has been allowed in recent years under the guise of select “missions”, can’t go as just an American tourist.

Havana is currently serviced by a few different U.S. major/ LCC/ ULCC carriers, and at one point also by Silver Airways. Not sure if Silver still goes there with their new ATRs.

One of my dearest friends, now deceased, had been a fairly major television entertainer in Cuba. He left when Castro came to power and found love and life here in the US, first in FLA, later in NY. Rolando wouldn't speak much about his former life or the nation he knew, but what a sweetheart.

Between his rare stories, the mystique, and my love of trains (too) which, from all accounts are a real throwback to the US railroads of 1950 or so, the place has always intrigued me.

I won't make it there in this lifetime (too many pups personally and Uncle Bob to too many more, plus some cats, next door) but I've always been fascinated.

Frankly never understood why we could reopen commerce, trade and travel with Vietnam, China and Russia while Cuba - just 90 miles distant from the US mainland - remained verboten.

All I'm going to say is that if you do a HAV turn, make sure you exit to hit duty free. On the way back into the secure area, "you're welcome".

In the mid 2000’s there were stricter rules about “imports”….I was always afraid one of those damn contraband sniffing beagles in MIA customs was going to get me a $10k fine.

Yes sir, I did it four times last month. (Never left the airport....) Several folks I talked with were visiting family.

Right? What is behind that staffing decision? (assuming that's what you are referring to..)

So • stupid we still treat Cuba this way.

But hey, no problem flying to Shanghai or Hong Kong!

Hypocritical foreign policy.

"Human rights abuses is why we have sanctions on Cuba! Oh man, look at this rock I'm going to buy my fiancee (from a conflict zone in Africa being sold to finance a warlord)"
Went to the jewelry district in downtown LA and got mine a cz. She woulda killed me if I bought a diamond.

She said, “buy me a camera lens or something useful”

Maybe getting rich airline pilots into duty free to buy things and enjoy the various “sights to be seen”. :)

For those that don’t know, the security checkpoint is staffed with tremendously attractive females with “naughty cop” uniforms, fishnet stockings and high heels.

You’re a dirty old man Doug.

I wonder if that’s the case at the little quonset hut terminal on the east side where WE park too, or if that’s only at the modern terminal where the less thrifty airlines park?
