Got an offer with a 135 carrier for “dispatch” but noticed that no one stays in that position for longer than 3 months

This is the job description listed on their site. But in talking to former employees they say there’s very little “dispatching” with one guy telling me he had three years of 121 experience and this felt more like a sales position. That’s what really has me on the fence but I don’t know if I’m being too particular or not.
Oh, if it's Oakdale, CA I reckon that's Sierra West, which is cargo/night freight.

Tell that to the 30 people at my shop that got auto rejected at the big 3 this season

If you get an auto reject, you applied to late (most majors stop after X # of applications) or you don’t know how to do a resume with keywords, or you answered one of incorrectly and didn’t read the form online when applying.

auto reject means the computer did it, and not a human… that means the one applying messed up

I think that is his point. The application still asks if you have x years experience at a 121, or alternatively how many years experience do you have, so if you don't have what they are looking for the computer rejects you. You were claiming you could get a major to hire you with 2-3 months, which isn't possible if you don't lie on the application and they don't catch or mind that you lied about that to get past the filter.

multiple individuals I know have moved from regionals to majors (delta, SW, AA to drop a few) with less than 1 year experience.

There is another question in the middle of the AA application that many people misread and click wrong thing, which leads to an auto rejection and not just the how much experience you have question.

As a sidenote, the experience question is how much aviation experience you have.. not just purely how much dispatch experience.

For those that need to take notes on their AAL application. Regardless, this timeline is only the exception and not the rule given current market circumstances. Also a testament of how much hiring managers prefer 121 scheduled time over everything else. A shame really, lots of talent among the other ops.

I really understand the want for 121 scheduled over anything else. It's really a different animal. That along with how they are structured and operate as well as being a DOT position make it easier for Majors to look at you.

Don't get me wrong you can definitely get to a Major without 121 you just have to have other areas of experience.

And don't get me started if you know someone...

Try Eastern Airlines. They are very short staffed, pay is $60k and with you will get Domestic, Flag, Supplemental and ETOPS. If you want your first job, decent pay and resume stats it’s not a bad choice.

I’ve seen their postings, are they 121? It’s hard to tell what their operation actually is.

Yes, they are 121. From what I’ve heard they are hiring no with no experience right now because the majors cleaned them out recently. If I was looking for my first job that’s where I would apply.

This would be a good start if you’re not trying to move far. Not scheduled but still 121. 767/777 heavy experience too. Pays better than regionals and you’ll be learning without much reliance on automation.

Workload will vary, probably. But once you make it to a major, it won’t make a difference.

I ended up taking it. They made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and the money is about double what regionals are paying out. Can’t complain for a first job after getting my certificate. Manager reassured me that while now they’re 135 and 125 they’re transitioning to be 121 and so they have dispatchers doing just dispatch. No more wearing many hats.

Actually they do have Scheduled Domestic/Flag certificates in addition to the Supp certificate.
