Regional contracts after Envoys proposed contract

Hey all!

I am sure you saw all the news about Envoy’s new proposed contract, with pay rates similar to major airline scales (Albeit temporary until Aug 2024).
What do you think about this move?

I am starting training with Endeavor soon, which I am excited about. I am sure other wholly owned regionals will follow suit, but does this signifly the beginning of the end for regional airlines?

Today Envoy is getting a crap ton of money. Tomorrow EDV could have their own gimmick. Ultimately they are gimmicks. Getting to your final destination and building seniority is what matters for the long term.

Mainline seniority > regional money every time.

With legacy airlines hiring 1000 pilots/year minimum it becomes that much more important to jump ship early rather than waiting around for a flow.

IMO you probably should stick it out at EDV for a bit. Finish your training then take a fresh look. If EDV feels the pinch because of the AA carriers they will offer something.

Have read in a few places (and not just on The Other Site) that this foreshadows the death of the outsourced regional model and a return to mainline flying.

Or all the players are holding out for a collapse.

Collapse of the non-WOs, or collapse of the regional model in general? (Note that this is not a binary proposition - both could happen, I suppose)

Economic collapse. Or to put it in less "dire" terms: Planning for severe recession in the 2-5 year window, consistent with the principle of going concern.

I have some of the same questions... I start training with Republic on 7/1 but threw in apps at Envoy and Piedmont last minute just to see... Piedmont got back to me in 12 hrs, still waiting to see if Envoy reaches out. I understand nobody knows what will happen, but does anybody have any thoughts on which is a better place to be? I have friends at Republic who loved the training program and I'd likely be able to live in easy driving distance to a base. I don't know as much about Envoy and Piedmont, but I'd definitely have to commute.

If you’re a commuter, even with the extra money, Piedmont will be tough. The only schedule at Piedmont is 4 on 2 off. If you are a commuter, that possibly eats into both of your off days.

The Recession is surely coming and will slow things down (not as much as covid did in my opinion) which is why having seniority in any company is valuable now more than ever, seeing as regionals are bleeding captains to the majors, it may not be a bad idea to stick it in a regional and weather the recession with some seniority there than flow up to a major in two years and be the first one to get furloughed.

Had to beat the pay at Envoy and PDT now PLUS the flow. I think that tips the scales past Republic. (Depends a bit on where you live (willingness to move, and commuting etc)

Like you bid for a 4 on 2 off all month?

that’s my understanding. I’ve been told that you can have any schedule you want at Piedmont as long as it’s 4 on 2 off! LOL.
There is not amount of money or shiny jet syndrome that would drive me to that. Unless those guys are getting time at home during those 4 days somehow.

But I also know guys that would never work my current schedule so......

Yup. It’s amazing to me how many pilots are like that dog in a bar on fire with the “this is fine” caption.
