Oh Alaska(n)

Union sent us an email this evening, there will be a vote to authorize a strike if released by the National Mediation Board.

Mediation hasn’t been going well and I think there is a push for us to go to cooling off and then released to self help (strike).

The vote doesn’t conclude until May 25. Strike probably won’t happen until July at the earliest I’m guessing. Still nice timing and all smack in the middle of travel season.

Strike votes are (for the most part) a very blunt cudgel that can be waived over the Company's head, but generally never actually used for any kind of violence.

This management group is the kind that needs the smack on the nose with a newspaper, they don’t seem to listen or believe that the MEC speaks for the pilots.

Froniter pilots had a very respectable turn out with 99% voting in favor in 2018. I hope we see those numbers here.

I miss the facebook that was inly accessible to college students. You couldn't eveb join unless you had a college email address. It was literally all about trying to network your way into spaces that were where the ladies or dudes that you were attracted to..

Yep, that's the era I joined too.....still needed that .edu email, and I think you even needed an invite

not trying to go in to a tit for tat type situation, but the NMB refused to let frontier Alpa strike a few years ago, and frontier’s contract was far more behind than Alaska is currently. I sincerely hope they let y’all walk, but I don’t see it. I’ll come walk the line with you if you get released.

a vote to authorize a strike is a paper tiger, though it’sa required step in “the process.”

That's true, but the motivation to release a company is political and there was an R in office then whereas there's a D now. Hopefully that will help. Also, fwiw we've been in negotiations longer (3 years) compared to their 2 (I think). At the end of the day a strong show of support is leverage to move the needle with management in the goal of getting a new contract.

Do you really think AS pilots would get released to strike since they provide a lot of critical services in AK?

I think it’s possible. Interesting timing with the arrival of the president in Seattle last night.

In my experience these things have already been discussed by lobbyists with the politicians who can say no.

Absolutely. Alaskan doesn’t do anything special up there that some other ACMI or cargo company can fill in. I don’t think they go anywhere exclusively and don’t do CRAF either.

Bless your hearts. Thinking we will be released this soon. The FIRST session with the NMB was just a couple months ago in January.

Either y’all are trolling, clueless, or just hopeful types. No way do we get released 5 months into the start of NMB negotiated sessions. The company chose the NMB sessions, not ALPA. You really think they did that “knowing” we’ll be released in 6 months?

No. They did that knowing we won’t be released for two years. Or ever.

Bet you a beer you never get released, though as I stated earlier, I hope you do and will walk the line with you.

“Spirit pilots, represented by the Air Line Pilots Association, Int’l (ALPA), concluded mediated talks with the company on February 18 without any progress toward a new contract. The pilots have been negotiating for three-and-a-half years and in federally mediated talks for over six months. The end of scheduled talks may result in the pilots calling a lawful strike should the group be released to seek self-help from the National Mediation Board.”

It happened at Spirit after 3 years of negotiations and 6 months of NMB, so I think you’re overstepping your knowledge here.

I think that AS very well could be released, and I hope they do, AAG deserves everything it’s getting right now.

Spirit in 2010? What, like a 30 airplane nobody back then. Plus it was profitable. I’m not seeing a release from companies losing a quarter billion dollars in 1st quarter.

Sure, I’ll vote yes. But as others have mentioned, this is just going through the motions. Just another step required to be done.

I’m more interested in hearing what happened where you wished AS/QX a horrible slow death?

Airline management’s view that they are taking care of the airline workers…..
