Pilot suitcase

Is the luggage space smaller in the Guppy? My old issued LW bag just died (handle won’t go down )

The Handle is bent, you should be able to remove it and straighten it by eye, or "flip the handle" it will start to bend back the other way. But unfortunately in my experience once they bend they will have to tendency to keep bending every now and again.

I agree with everyone about the weight of the LW. But its a tank, I commute mostly on RJ's to a winter city from a winter city, And it takes a beating and keeps on going. They are super easy to work on and I've fixed mine in a pinch with hardware from Home Depot. The wheels use a very common 608 wheel bearing that is commonly found on skateboards and the like, easily replaceable and cheap to obtain.

LW makes an ABS frame version of the Stealth, the Executive 22, which I have and am very happy with. It's quite a bit lighter but is otherwise identical. Mine has never seen an RJ however, so I can't speak to how well it would survive regular gate checking compared to the metal frame.

@ozziecat35 I'm thrilled to hear that bag is still kicking around some what, 8 years later? :)
(btw you scared the hell out of me with that first sentence lol, those were pretty new roller blade wheels in that thing since I'd suffered the same issue not long before)

Going through security, bag went under the scan, diverted (they saw my LW maintenance tool (a screw driver) Sir is this your bag? Yes, go ahead whip it out, I'll guarantee you its less than 7 inches.

lf you’d like your bag to last 10+ years without sending it away for repair and if there is a chance you’ll be using it on an airline that will require you to gate check it, get a luggage works.
“It’s too heavy” -lift some weights!
“It’s an eyesore/dead give away you’re a pilot” -GOOD! Get outta my way and lemme get to the hotel/bar
“Travel Pro/Costo/Briggs+Riley/(Tumi? LOL) are just as good- you just need to send back for repair every so often” -they’re not and you should have gotten a luggage works.

I’ve used an away hard cover carry on for 5-6 years and have had no issues whatsoever. I prefer it to the LW I had prior.

While we're here - how important is it to have the LW 737 versions of their bags if you fly a 737? Will the normal ones with side pockets not fit?

The space under the second jumpseat is too narrow to properly store a bag with side pockets. Guys still try and end up ripping the side zippers and pockets. It's only a matter of time before that happens. If you are going to be on the 737, I think it is worth it to buy a bag that fits under the second jumpseat.

This one is a hit especially because Dora is a traveler, just like pilots.

Another awesome thing about the steel framed LW is that you can literally sit on it. That may sound silly, but when you've been flying for fourteen hours, and you've been waiting on the hotel van for fifteen minutes with nowhere to sit ... it's so nice to be able to just flop and chill.

LW has a 26" and strongbags has a 24 in. Can someone who has one tell me what use they are. they exceed just about any airline's carry-on dimensions.

The larger ones are dubbed as int'l, aka carry a bunch of junk you don't really need on a 10+ day trip. I've flown with a few dudes who have the 26" but conveniently were not commuters so there is that. Given the ability to either hand wash a handful of things in the sink or have access to hotel laundry I'm just fine with a 22" for 3 weeks.
