Must have been a "Sale" on BECMG or, maybe, the USAF has a new weather apprentice stationed at PASY. :bounce:

I trust a BECMG line about as much as I trust a TEMPO line....and there is nothing more trustworthy than a TAF from a mil airfield. But you CANNOT have 10 BECMG lines without a few TEMPO lines, and then they even failed to provide a FM line. WTF? Was this written by an airman?:)

Most countries aside from the U.S. and Canada use BECMG in lieu of FM to indicate that the forecast weather conditions will change over a period of time, rather than instantaneously (as a FM suggests). U.S. military airports also do this, for the most part.

Sure, I understand the difference in meaning between the two. I agree that using BECMG more often than FM is a better use of everyone's time if the weather doesn't have an extremely clearly defined change expected, such as following frontal passage for example. In my experience, US mil fields use both (BECMG and FM) quite frequently.

Well even though it was a military forecaster, it would be nice if NWS Forecasters would stop abusing VRB wind directions GustingXx (VRB10G33)
This is even stated in the NWS manual for TAFs
B2.4.3 Variable Wind (VRBffKT)
The forecast wind direction will be encoded when forecasting a prevailing surface wind direction is not possible due to its expected variability (variations in wind direction ≥ 30 degrees). Meteorologists should avoid using VRB and provide the best forecast direction possible. This enables users to use the wind group for planning purposes.

If it’s VRB14G30 might as well include a FC in the TAF line too because that wind is coming from some direction.

I've looked at a lot of TAFs and I can honestly say the thought has never occurred to me that variable wind forecast are abused.

Dickson had to have some sort of legacy.

I think it’s that jetBlue pilot Turrieta, she seems to be on a mission to find anything that could be considered offensive or not broad enough to cover all sexes. Who knows. All I know is no one has ever complained about what NOTAMS stood for. How about we actually change the format of NOTAMS so it doesn’t read like absolute garbage.
