I went from doing Covid math, "so i got my booster in November...December...Jan....." I should be good till April and by then we'll be in Summer....to...oh wait that scratchy throat I had is covid? That's it? Cool....Party on Wayne.
It got a little worse than a scratchy throat, mostly sinus congestion..kinda crappy sleep for 2 nights but really not bad. Kids and wife the same.
IF it’s Omicron.
Hilariously, one of my coworkers said “Are people actually calling in sick with Omicron?” because he’s a conspiracy nut that thinks COVID doesn’t exist.
”Well, ackshually, no one knows what strain this is because neither of the antigen or PCR tests indicate which strain we test positive for. iT mIgHt Be Pi!”
”How do you know the next strain?!”
”It’s in the secret guidebook, you didn’t get one?”
Exactly! I like being alive so I got vaccinated and boosted. Who knows, since I’m still working and not testing after trips maybe I’ve had it. I’m following CDC guidance and masking so if I do have it I’m hopefully not spreading. This isn’t a political stunt. Just follow medical advice and we’ll all be able to argue politics unmasked soon enough.

Yeah how is it California of all states you can't require weekly testing if you're unvaccinated? Seems it being California they'd be the first states to make sure an employer could enforce that.
And yeah my last trip my Captain going off about how I'm going to croak over and die for getting vaccinated and I'm too young to jab myself up.
I just gave the classic "yeah man idk, it's gonna be crazy" since he was bought me my beers.

Omicron for the win! At the rate it's going by the end of next week it'll be delta who? Looks like the CDC does analysis to see which strain is where and at what proportion.

That's crazy. Because almost everybody is getting exposed... I got exposed, got it, but unfortunately hung with my mom before I knew (she just tested negative on day 5, thankfully). Meanwhile, my sister's son has been exposed twice now in daycare. And a huge proportion of people I know are currently either sick with it, or been exposed. It's everywhereeeeeeee.

Yup, I don't know how you could even monitor someone saying "I was exposed". Just gives a huge power play to the pilot group. I think the pay incentives are to try and get people to stop testing themselves who are asymptomatic and probably don't require a test, but will do one just to see if you can get off your trip. But that's just my theory.
"Oh, look. I'm positive. Guess I can't work Christmas anymore"... I have no idea if the exposure thing will be abused or not. Guess time will tell...

Exactly. I don’t believe airline pilots. We are a bunch of prima dona spoiled asses. This is the FIRST time in history that a crew member can just call out sick over Christmas, holidays, New Years and literally not get any follow up from mgt. In years passed, calling out over this time period could easily result in a CP call, a Doctor note request, etc.
But now with Omicron? ANYONE and their mother can call scheduling and say hey, I got symptoms for Omicron and gonna get tested. Bam, 5 days off guaranteed. Or that I got a positive Covid test. Same result. I have no doubt there are people out there that are milking this.

My guess is with Omicron Vax status doesn’t matter much in terms of reducing spread. I mean NYC/DC are just giant super spreader events. I spread it throughout my family and we were all vaxxed boosted etc…
Science says vaccines still help. No, not as good as against the o.g. COVID but still impressive.

I'm not saying they don't help (as the article show regarding hospitalizations). I'm saying Omicron is spreading out of control especially here in the NY area. I don't think anything can stop it at this point, even a vaccine that reduces transmission really doesn't mean much (in terms of transmission). I mean yesterday was close to 50,000 cases in NYC? And that's just people standing in line for a PCR or making an appointment. I ended up doing a PCR (just to satisfy work) but my wife and kids just did the at-home test and aren't even counted.
Good news is hospital numbers look good for the area. (But lots of hospital staff out sick).
