I would hope so. Being that wires and poles avoidance to a helo pilot, is as sacred as certain types of icing avoidance to a light-medium fixed wing pilot (and helos too). Even though all these helos have wire strike protections kits, they’re not an item that you want to ever exercise.
Chinooks don’t.
As far as top cover, the Battalion Commander was in the lead ship so they are about as protected as they would ever be in this situation from long lasting repercussions.
Army would have a hard time raking the back seater over the coals for something the boss he works for was dismissed on.
