UAL Vacancy 21-04

So is United reserve that bad? Because widebody flying outside of 75/76 going to new hires is more of a red flag than celebration in my opinion. And I know United reserve rules are written not well...

I think it’s also a byproduct of the rapid growth we are seeing too. That’s the reason I’m staying on the bus in EWR when I can hold DEN or ORD. After about 3 seconds at the airline, I’ll be at about 40% seniority in EWR, but only 80ish% in the more senior bases. Why would I give up good seniority as a commuter, just to get a slightly easier commute to a Midwest base? I’d be around 90% on the 777/787 in EWR, but why would I bid it now on first year pay just to sit reserve? Even if we had the best reserve rules in the industry, line>reserve. I think as things start to settle and get properly staffed, the widebodies won’t go as junior as we are currently seeing.

46 unfilled captain positions and 157 unfilled 777/787 first officer positions on the vacancy that closed today. Junior captain is a late 2019 hire on the 737 in LAX. Absolutely unreal that there are unfilled captain positions at a legacy airline!

Of course this isnt vaccine related........... Right?

Take heed people.
The Monkey has a point. Verbose and obnoxious as he can be, he is clearly not trolling and has a connection to aviation.

Niether can be said for a certain troll with zero apparent knowledge of or connection to aviation...

Verbose & obnoxious... Clearly no trolling.... "A certain troll". Ladies,
This type of behavior is what happens when you breastfeed your child until they're 25.... But in Your case Im pretty sure it was soy milk.

Effusive, verbose, garrulous, how about chatty! (@SteveC this is from a movie called ConAir, action flick with airplanes)

People wonder why I couldn't wait to get rid of the Gunmonkey avatar.

They kicked me off for no justifiable reason whatsoever. Nobody ever even had the decency to explain to me the rationale behind my dismissal. BTW, "Thanks, y'all !"

The interesting part is ... i got to feel a wee tad of what i imagine it's like to be a "shunned" Amish. ... with the exception that the Amish would give the shunned a reason for his shunning. Once you're off, there's zero recourse or appeal; you're just off. Cool beans, y'all.

I know I'm not particularly, er, "likeable". It's just that there are quite a few disagreeable folks and even some completely irrational folks 'round this board who don't get capriciously dropped.

Also, disagreeable is almost definitionally an order of degree of tolerance; not an actual incidence of cussing or perversion or racism, or irrationality. If the Mod who banned me can definitively prove I committed a sin in violation of board policy, well... GO AHEAD, MAKE MY DAY; I dare you to show me actual evidence to support your policy-based action. If you can, I'll voluntarily drop from the board.

I know you banned me because... well, you know, "you just didn't like my foo". Yeah, I can be a pain in the ass. Still, as they say in the south, "God bless your heart." "I'm smarter. I'm more arrogant. And I carry more insurance."... That's a kinda sorta southern saying, too. Lol.

I took my lumps like a good plebeian. But, NOW... "I'm baaaaack!" Lol.

Here's the thing, tho. Regardless of what a pill I may be, I'll always shoot straight. I'll never piss on your shoe and tell you it's raining. I'll always care about and strive for excellence.

If all that all is "just too hard"... if all that requires just "toooooo much effort" for your delicate consitution.... Well, then I've got little time for y'all.

As they say in TexaHampshire... Live SMART or Die!!!!

Sir, this is a Wendy's

I like how they capture altitude at 1,900 ft and instead of doing something about that, they just configure the rest of the flaps for landing. "Well, I guess the runway will just rise and meet us here at 1,900."

Ok, I see. I guess your delivery could have been better. But I think I get what you mean.

Btw, not sure if you've seen this or if you fly the Airbus (or have flown it). As someone who used to be on the Bus, this is painful to watch. To be fair, it was "cognitive incapacitation." After that, it was just a chit show all around...

Open climb with the speed bugged way below where you’re at…<cringe>

Commuting to reserve is bad. It’s extra bad at UAL because our long call has no limits on how many times they can convert you to short call AND we have field standby. Crash pads in SFO are expensive. LAX = LAX, BUR, ONT, SNA (I think that’s all) DCA = DCA, IAD, BWI and EWR = EWR, LGA, JFK (fleet specific).

If you’re local, this is definitely the time and place to be. If you’re commuting, best of luck.

My post was not in response to your post, it was in reply to the apparent stroke that Space Monkey had while typing. That post has been deleted.

Like Finny said not being offered to new hires yet. Guys can hold it in their first bid though. There are rumblings that Jan/Feb will have 777/787 in the base drops. EWR had unfilled 777 and 787 in this bid.
Don't quote me but I swear continental had new hires going to 777 in the mid 2000's. If I recall though they were relief lines so they went jr. and you had to do sim a lot more.

The day a major hires me, I'll agree there's a pilot shortage.

(I admit, it's bittersweet watching all my friends and coworkers move on. I'm really happy for them, but also very sad.)
Same fam.

You • are both •, and fully ready for a job at a major airline. I'm confident both of you will land at a job that deserves to have you.
