A McDonnell Douglas MD-87, registration N987AK, was destroyed when it was involved in an accident near Houston, Texas.
Preliminary information indicates there were no fatalities among the 21 occupants.

Amazing if so, and a nice demonstration of the value of a timely evacuation.

My thought was that the actual incident probably wasn't as bad as it looks, but but because I'm assuming it was at an airport without an ARFF station, it probably burned awhile before anyone got to it. I'll let the resident ARFF expert chime in, though. Looks like ill equipped volunteers trying to put it out, though.
 
My guess is that airport doesn't see a lot of airline type aircraft. Someone got the departure on their cell phone.

The satellite image shows what appears to be two mad dogs, so I'm guessing this one may have actually been based there. LLC tied to the aircraft is registered two of the most Houston looking guys you could imagine, with two of the most stereotypical Houston backgrounds (oil/land).
 
AFAIK there aren’t ARFF Part 139 requirements for part 91 operated flights.
