Interview attire

Yeah I buy my pants on side on my own and wear A Cut Above as well. Never bought anything from uniform vendors at my airlines. It fits like an umbrella and fabric feels like crap.

Usually 100% pure polyester, too. Not only does it not breath and it feels awful, but if you get into an accident and there's fire, it will melt right to your skin. Amazes me that the FAA allows that crap.

If it's asked for, that's different.

I actually sort of like that strategy, though. See what someone looks like in uniform. You can see whether their uniform is a slovenly mess or well cared for and presented.
Yes, much more effective than seeing who has the most money to go buy an expensive suit that they plan on wearing once. I wish everyone would do this. Whatever it is you wear for work in the job you're doing, wear that.

I want to sue them for all my skin irritation. Their pants are terrible.
I don't think I've ever actually worn a single item from them, everything
Ugh. That’s who Pinnacle used. Awful stuff. Go get stuff made custom instead.
I’ve been doing a cut above from the beginning and it’s a ton better, but not as great as it used to be. But then again I wasn’t making $17/hr.

A suit doesn’t need to be expensive to look good. The expense is more about durability. What makes a suit look good on you is the cut and fit. You can have that for less than the cost of a typical uniform.

Arguably few if any of us will ever need the durability built into a daily wear suit. You could take a basic in style suit jacket from any mall department store to an alterations shop and be fine so long as you don’t drastically change your lifestyle over the next 15 years with how many actual hours you’ll wear it for.

That said it amazes me how many grown adults I know that simply don’t own one. It’s like between job interviews, weddings, and funerals you have enough justification to have at the very least 1 in your closet.

I wouldn’t say any suit will do, but a whole lot will. Most of it is about how it’s altered for you, but some of it is about the cut of the suit, also. Some cheap suits will be old school baggy sack suits, have crazy wide lapels, overly padded shoulders, etc. But yeah, go into a Dillard’s and buy a navy blue or charcoal $400 Hart Schaffner Marx suit, have it decently tailored, and the average man will be set for many years with how little they wear it, and they’ll look top notch when they do need it. It’s only people like me who wear one every day who need to drop bigger coin on extremely well made suits that can keep looking great with heavy use.

I had one that was way way too big for me. I had zero incentive to buy one for a long time since all the above were not happening. That said, it isn't hard to obtain a suit once needed.

I moved to DC in 2011 and, in the course of the first year, had to buy two new suits. Not for work.

For social occasions related to my wife's job.

Don’t I know it…

I keep joking with my wife any time I go home on leave she needs to remind me to bring my uniform and a suit….

Because every time I don’t somebody dies or gets married. Ive got 3 suits upstairs that were all “oh •” buys. Though it was funny last time when my Uncle Gene had his wake. Here you have a retired Navy man with a room full of old time VFW guys in uniform… my granddad in his dress blues, my uncle in his, and me in an all black suit I’d bought the day before amongst them getting asked, “why didn’t you come in your uniform?” Insert either my grandfather or uncle then loudly yelling, “It’s Ok! He’s Special Operations! But don’t tell anybody!”
