I doubt it was anything at all like that, and that’s based on one line of the complaint.

Guessing that likely it was something like “we’re damned near there anyway, the passenger is restrained and it’s as quick for us to press to JFK where we are expected with this Boeing 777 instead of going full Colonel Flagg and diverting in the heat of the evening then waiting for whatever.”
 
Straight up ignorance. The lower the fares, the higher the risk you get this boarding a flight. They used to all be on Greyhound, or Spirit. Now it‘s all over.
