Your perceptions needed on the how cockpit positional assignments impact safety

Fellow professional pilots:

This survey investigating pilot’s thoughts about how different organizational systems used in multi-pilot aircraft impact flight safety will close at the end of the month and I wanted to give everyone another chance to provide your thoughts on this interesting topic.

The basic idea originated when two career pilots, one a corporate pilot and another an airline pilot, were sharing flying stories and they discovered a key difference in how their companies organized their cockpits. It takes about 20 minutes to complete. Plus, after you complete the survey you will be given a chance to win one of three gift cards ($300, $150, or $50) via a random drawing.

As a Captain, I typically prefer the, er, "Superior" position vis a vis the FO. The Fibrillating Orifice's position is rather secondary, you know, definitionally. Lol.

Didn't have time for the whole survey, but that quip took only about 15 seconds. I'm just trying to answer in accord with the general zeit-chi of the times, yeah?

Look, I appreciate someone humping to do their thesis or research paper. They are truly a colossal PITA. But surveys are lazy and make for lame papers. Telling students that’s the only way to complete a grad program is uber lazy and doesn’t move the bar at all.

Depends on what else you do. I've used survey data to verify and expand data gathered through interviews. Having some data to support a grad level paper is more desirable than reading 200 pages of somebody's opinions.

I am a pro pilot doing some research on this topic, one that I found years ago as quite interesting, as part of a degree program at ERAU.
I hope you are willing to share your thoughts, but I understand 20 minutes can be an eternity in a busy schedule. But if you want to share your views on how cockpit assignments can impact flight safety I hope you can spare the time.

Nothing commercial, and no personally identifiable information collected, and nothing but generalized results shared in the form of a published report. RDA

So to be clear, this data is not being used for a current graduate program, there's no oversight board, and you have no thesis advisor. You're just curious?

Yes, it is and there is. PhD program with a committee and review board, so all the controls are there to ensure the info is used correctly while protecting your rights. Sorry I didn't include enough info in the initial post, this was the initial post I used on my union forum.

This is a topic I wanted to research for several years, and just decided to do it within a degree program, so the degree kinda came around because of the desire to do investigate this topic more than the other way round. The first couple pages of the site are the Informed consent pages, and the premise of the study is provided when the real study questions begin. I hope you can help out, but I understand if you can't or choose not to; as a fellow pilot I get lots of similar requests also. Thanks at least for showing interest enough to ask for clarification. RDA

With all due respect, this sort of thing would be better received had you taken some time to introduce yourself and be a general member of the forum for at least a few weeks prior to asking everyone to provide data for your research paper. Just food for thought.

So, who is the sponsor? What university? Who is your doctoral advisor? What program?
