Tactical dehydration

Guy at my last company gave himself kidney stones that way.

Well, this thread sure has taken a detour, but I won’t leave this topic hanging.

Kidney stones were a problem for some, and I was concerned. However, what worked for me was to drink like a fish the night before, and I had 16 oz of coffee in the morning. During the flight, I had 32 oz, but sometimes 48 oz, of water. As soon as we were on the ground, start drinking again.

I used to feel bad inconveniencing like 5 people to do a potty break, then two friends got kidney stones. Eff that noise, i have no desire to get that merit badge. Now I’ll call the back and go as many times as I please, just being appreciative and nice about it.

If you gotta go ya gotta go. On a particularly long taxi with delays it’s not uncommon for the capt to run back, I’ve needed to go too. Luckily the Airbus has a tiller on the FO side too!

Yup. Like it was a “big” deal at old-job and here they often call US asking if we’d like to come out. One way to ensure an occupied gate or other misfortune, too, is to fail to take a near-top-of-descent leak.

There's definitely a point where I'm hydrated enough to where I have to pee less, oddly enough. It's like my body finally figures out after a half a bottle of water that "oh, you want me to hang onto this for a while?" Getting that hydrated can be tough on the 6am flights, plus the coffee I need to get going doesn't help.

I flew with a captain that had an FA tell him to his face "you need to drink less water." The amount of attitude and drama they got away with over setting up bathroom breaks there was ridiculous. I get the timing can be inconvenient, but sometimes they forgot who was captain of the ship. "We'll call you back in 10 minutes." always got a timer started in the cockpit.

That, along with “teehee inform not enforce teehee” were my least favorite features of that department.

Back in the day...the metro had legs over 6hrs. That's a lot of single pilot time. It was a very fine balancing act between staying hydrated, being dehydrated, and having a Gatorade bottle.

A buddy of mine that worked at a corporate gig where the clients did not like for him to use the lav. There's no way I'd work at a place where the clients were so into themselves that I couldn't use the lav because they felt that it was their personal space. I'm not privy to being in a "The Help" like scenerio!

Pilot Relief Tubes.

Waaaay back, I had an AFROTC instructor who flew in the early days of Vietnam. Tooling along, his pilot relief tube sprung a leak, and triggered the ejection system. Surprise!

The carpet dance probably belongs on SNL.

Watch out for Bernoulli's Law of Unequal Volumes with the Gatorade bottle. What comes out doesn't necessarily equal what went in.
