Military midair over Idlib

I’m tempted to call you a delusional moron. But I’m a nice guy and would never say that about someone in public.

I mean I hear it all the time out of Hawk boys (who aren’t the best assault platform let alone Gun Platform), and it always makes me laugh.

The second the Regiment gets tired of dealing with the litany of PITA issues the DAPs have and decides to just paint a dozen Apaches black, everybody in C/1 will have papers in for the transition.

A few years ago myself and another MTP sketched out a design for a refuel boom for the Apache. It involved running the lines above the number 1 EFAB. Problem with it was it would obscure the PNVS picture and there’s probably a consideration about the boom being too close to the tip path plane. The other option we came up with is a pylon mounted probe but that thing would have to be ridiculously long. Then we realized that we both had ERAU degrees we ordered online and had no business designing aircraft components.

Never flew Apaches. But I do think the Blackhawk is a lesser capable and lesser useful platform for CSAR as the Pave Hawk, than our HH-3E Jolly Greens were that these Hawks replaced.

Oh it’s been thoroughly studied.

Probe it’s self is only a couple hundred lbs. idea would be to use the same retractable system the Hawks and CVs use. The aircraft also has an excess of available forward CG, and more importantly a better power margin at cruise over the DAP.

If you gave the Apache to the Regiment in 10 years it would look totally different though. SIMO does in weeks and months what it take a program office a half decade to accomplish. Since it would be filling such a small population of the regiment (literally 1 company in 1st Battalion) having such an ungodly expensive aircraft with absolutely no commonality amongst the Army in general and the regiment specifically means it will never happen.

It’s been documented that all Apache guys at minimum are basically 6 feet.

Then I got to meet the outliers who had something to prove and a ladder to climb into their 3/4T pickup.

Fun fact: I knew a guy who who was tracked for the Apache, but was too tall. I think it was his leg length. Anyhow, he ended up in the 60s.

Apache pilots need someone to look up too. Both figuratively and literally.

@Lawman thanks for letting me write personal messages to ISIS on your Hellfires, whether you knew we did it or not... :)

Despite the recent triumph of AI over a patched fighter pilot, this buffoonery gives me hope that Skynet’s obliteration of humanity is still somewhat far off.
I'm more worried about these guys than Skynet

Meh, what I have heard from decently reliable sources (that's like 1/2 confidence :) ) is that the robot basically had complete SA at all times to human's position, energy state, and trends. Things that are not likely to be available to even a cutting edge bot fighter anytime soon. I'm at least mildly skeptical of the results. That having been said, it certainly proved itself to be quite capable given the information it was fed.
