ExpressJet closes doors

yep, came out on aero news a few hours ago. I always wanted to work there. Used to fly them as a kid back in the Jet Link days. Sad news and tough times for our airline friends.

Yep, saw the email last night. Sad for all those people, I flew with tons of awesome people at XJT

Such a bummer and definitely an end of an era. Lot of really good people there with a fantastic training department and great contract. Not all regionals are created equal and they really were a shining star with an illustrious history. I look fondly upon my time there and it started way back in '08 when I was a college intern in the ONT chief pilot's office, then got to fly for them a few years later. Hope everyone still there lands on their feet!

Truly sucks, best wishes to everyone there. Still have some 'one list' stickers somewhere, too bad we couldn't make it happen eh @jtrain609?

It would have saved a lot of jobs in the end, but the company wasn't interested, and XJT ALPA sold away the section 1 protection that would have forced it.

They sold it to keep a job for XJT pilots for a few more years. It worked.

XJT survived longer than they had any right to, thats something to be proud of.

I feel for all the guys and gals there. The younger ones will bounce around ok and eventually land on their feet, the older guys its gonna be tougher. I hope we all can get out of this sooner rather than later. Maybe Breeze will hire a bunch of the XJT/Compass/TSA guys. (if that's a sore spot don't hurt me) Don't give up if you're part of those groups. Explore other variants of aviation for a while, you'll be surprised what you can learn flying under different rules. Im glad I spent 13 years Instructing/135/91 before making my jump to 121. It gives me a good perspective and appreciation for certain things. Things I miss and things I don't.

Can anyone run a cliffs note version of this back story? As I recall XJT was bought by SkyWest through ASA. And there was no single list. But what do ya mean XJT lived longer than it should have?

As I understand it, the contract had holding company language in the CBA. The average line pilot thought they'd be protected when Company A used Company B to buy Company C, or at least have leverage to negotiate. The weak MEC chair gave it away under threat with the pilots having no say. Later on someone leaked the MEC Chair's pay stub which forced him to resign and actually work hard for what he was pay-claiming. Years later I heard he was in the running for a good pilot job at another airline but the XJT alumni over there blackballed his ass and he didn't get the nod. I wouldn't be surprised if that's happened more than once.

Ah yikes. :( Thanks for back story.
