Dangerous Situation at CLT

We're supposed to make a PA if we have time, but, well, nobody listens to those, either.

There was always a plane on the runway.

Not like I’m going to say, “Well, my copilot got a little cocky, didn’t take the hint that he needed to slow when he joined the river visual, was too proud for gear and got to practice his go-around call outs LIVE” :)

I guess it’s fair cause when y’all have to go around cause I did screw up I always blame the plane ahead of you for slowing early

I know when you issue a panic vector. Pepperidge FAAAAAAHMS remembers.

Ha! Summer sausage IS delicious though. Well, kinda.

Well, I’ve decided if I’m going to augur in on my diet, I’m going all in. Bacon and beer plays a critical and predominant role in my future nutritional needs

Well, I wished my copilot had hinted, "You are high but at least you're fast" on my first flight after OE going into SNA. The go around was a thing of beauty if I do say so myself.

I did two go arounds in four years. One went perfect. I know I reviewed my maneuvers section waaaaaay more than the average line guy. I’d be willing to bet a paycheck that the percentage of procedurally correct go arounds is less than 20%.

I almost wonder if line checks should include a dry run of certain maneuvers at the gate. Instead of being stuck with the guy an entire turn sometimes you just get to play pretend on the maneuvers that always go poorly.

Only two? Either you were lucky or I've been unlucky. I'm at 18 various go arounds in 5.5 years of 121. That's me in the cockpit as FO or CA, as PM and PF. Only once was it "my fault" where I was new to the 900 and not comfortable pointing the nose down enough to push through a strong thermal on very short final. I've had wind shears, break it off for other wx, plane ahead takes too long to get off the runway, once an A320 on the center runway ILS overshot into our right side runway flight path, and one time an aborted landing due to runway lights went out completely at 100' at night with the tower still open (power failure not PCL timeout).

And two times in a week, both my legs, Wilmington Approach handed us off to Tower at the FAF with us on speed, only for tower to tell us at the FAF we were number three to land. The first time we were number three to land with two Huskies doing 60 kts ahead of us ahead of us. S turns didn't give us enough time for them to land and clear so we went around. The second was us number three behind two Harriers that did an overhead break to land. They should have been down and clear in time but they cool guy slow taxiied allllll the way down the runway causing us to go around.

None of them ever went quite like the sims ideal method, and some were complete just fly the plane and do pilot stuff while weather or ATC throws you a curveball in your procedure.

I wonder if the pilot was letting the co-pilot fly. Or maybe they were distracted by a stewardess.

Haha dude you’re getting some bad karma or something! I can only think of one time where after we landed we both agreed it woulda been a better idea to add money to the paycheck.
It’s funny how flying goes sometimes. I myself never had an engine failure, I’ve met people with multiple. Did they kick puppies in a past life to deserve the bad luck? We will never know.
