Oh United

Up the long ladder, down the short rope, as the old man opines.

Though I’d rather have everyone show up on day 1 and then furlough them, as a matter of form. Super not-classy to cancel on a Friday evening for a Monday start.

Bummer. I know UA stands to hurt the most from this (at least initially). But seems like poor form to cancel 3 days before class begins.

Things never really change in this business. Hire like gangbusters until the day they furlough.

I think this should serve as a wake up call for all the regional pilots out there not moving on because they’re either waiting for that 100% “dream job” or they’re just comfortable. Get where you want to be and start building seniority. And if it isn’t where you want to be forever that’s okay as long as the name on the airplane matches the name on your paycheck. Would you rather be stuck in the right seat (or left) at a regional indefinitely or building seniority at a ULCC or ACMI etc...

Why not?

@Dphoenix asks the same thing. Lol.

I'm just reading, it's like going to NGPA to hangout while you're still in primary training. It never hurts.
Well if you're arguing it'll do more harm than good and not much networking is done on those groups. Have you started lining up your first gig post-commercial checkride? You should have that offer in hand now. We're all counting on you max, don't go down the drama sucker hole that pilot Facebook groups provide, keep your focus on the task at hand.

I quit my job with the intention to relax for a week and enjoy having some time off but now I'll be nervously wondering if the same happens to me. :)

No job lined up yet, was waiting to start applying after I passed my ASEL, and maybe even my AMEL, I didn't know that I could apply beforehand. Awesome thanks for the tip.

You’re fine! Get ready for that ER if you want it. We just had 8 in our class of 41 get it. I got the 717 but I least I still get to drive to work.
I doubt ER drops to me, we will see. I have a feeling I'm getting MD88/717 as my only options... I start with a 2 so I'm pretty far down the list.

When I got my class date (checked my answering machine remotely, back when that was a thing, on a layover in Fayetteville, NC, after eating at Cracker Barrel...it was a GOOD evening!), I just so happened to have two weeks of vacation starting when I got home. Called up the Chief Pilot, gave him two weeks notice, effective after my vacation, AND took two additional weeks off prior to class.

PDT wasn't a bad gig back in the day, but I was so over the regional thing, I needed a break. It was almost two years before I flew a line more than 72 hours.
