So, I’m trying to figure out which water was actually tested, the bottled water off the cart (pictured) or the sink water in the lav (from the title).
 
Heh, I remember hearing this claim for years. "The potable water on our airplanes consistently fails blah blah blah bacteria test". Okay. Tens of thousands of airline passengers drink coffee and tea brewed with that water every day and we don't see a mass epidemic of GI illness. I drank and continue to drink coffee and tea from airliner potable water systems and I can't honestly say it's ever affected my health. There's probably an equal or greater risk of getting bacterial illness from a restaurant in any American city.
 
I think of it like my local news stations “Dirty Dining” report where they broadcast which restaurants earned passing grades during their health inspections and which restaurants failed.

People freak out, vow to never dine at the Chipotle on 35th and Southern and blah blah blah. Now if the same health inspector went to the average kitchen and applied the same standard of scrutiny, there aren’t many kitchens that would pass the inspection.

Is the water on a jet any nastier than is coming out of your sink at home? Maybe. Significantly? I don’t know. But that bottle of water you bought at the CNBC shop at the airport for $8 is probably nothing more than bottled municipal tap water anyway.

At my previous gig, every few weeks one of the planes would fail an e coli test and the water tank would get mel'd until it could be deep cleaned. Haven't seen that too much at the current place.

So, if you don’t respond to some email from a “content provider” we’ll say your water quality sucks.
 
I got giardia once from an unknown source. Parasites can be tough to get rid of because we work on the same biochemistry they do, so what makes them sick can make you sick as well (as opposed to bacteria, which have different biochemical targets).

I had to drink this slime twice a day for a whole month. Tasted like spoiled milk of magnesia.

Avoid.

Let me try to be nice here. If you restrict your airline water intake to that water which represents the medium for airline coffee or tea, you'll probably be just fine. However, do your best to avoid the airline ice on trips originating in Mexico.

Find some tamarack trees. Strip a bunch of bark. Chew it like gum, or brew it into tea and drink it. The ultimate in parasite elimination.

It's even worse than that. Most municipal tap water is excellent quality water. That's precisely why Coke, Pepsi, et. al. use it as the source for their bottled water products; they undertake additional purification procedures mostly to remove artifact water treatment chemicals in the already treated water.

The snake oil that really gores my ox is the completely unregulated "Natural, Organic, Gluten-Free, Off-Planet" "Spring Water" industry. Spring water could be anything from Ponce de León's ethereal fountain, to uncle Vern's Love Canal well, to some open sewer somewhere.

Agree on this. The only thing 99.99% pure in bottled water is the marketing.

By and large, muni water plants are solid. It may be stinky, but it's completely potable.

Looking at my watch, it's about time for the anti-vaxxers to show up and claim fluoride in the water is for mind control.

And I vaccinate all our kids. No flu shots though, that’s snake oil.
