Finally joined a flying club near DFW

I use ForeFlight and have it synced to my full sized iPad and iPhone. I mount the iPad with a ram mount and two suction cups. It works like a charm in my club’s 182. I use Zulu 3 headphones from Lightspeed. I traded in my 40 year old David Clarks and got a $250 credit for each set.

Enjoy the fun flying around with your son @ZapBrannigan!

So the iPad was definitely way too large. Trying to decide now if my iPhone XR (using a ram mount) is large enough for ForeFlight, or would you recommend I invest in a used iPad mini? What mount solutions do you like for a Cherokee or 172?

I have foreflight on my X, but I don't mount it as it's back up for a 430 on the panel. It works fine for me. If I didn't have the 430 I would probably yoke mount it and I can see it and work with it just fine. 172 K model

Definitely go iPad Mini. Phone is too small. I alway preferred a yoke mount in my Mooney.

Did the yoke mounted iPad feel like it gets in the way?

I did yoke mount when I was flying the Arrow with the mini. Similar ergonomics.

When I was flying solo XCs in the Arrow for my CSEL, I'd actually mount it on the co-pilot yoke and point it at me. Was really handy that way.

lol, you guys are cute:
(Not included in the pic is a 15 inch laptop and 3 associated cameras.)

@ZapBrannigan , Cherokee is one of my favorite GA planes. Super forgiving. Have fun!

I just completed a checkout in a 172 here in Chicago and the instructor was near apoplectic that I had never used Foreflight nor knew how to use it.

The 172 is g1000 and I bring the paper stuff.

Just curious if you have given any electronic charts a try, and if so, how did you like them?
