Plane goes missing in North Carolina after morning takeoff

The adult CAP program is equal part stolen valor and child abuse. Your kid would be less likely to be molested during a karate dojo sleepover.
not untrue. This dude gave me an orientation flight when I was ...15?
Former Immaculata High coach sentenced to six years for videotaping boys in showers

unfortunately, there are turds in every organization that give them a bad name. I had a great time in the Scouts despite the weirdos that ran other troops like the military.

About ten years ago, I explored joining CAP in my area. They were a decent group of folks, many were career ex military officers, and the head of the wing was a 121 captain. That said, the flight suits, uniforms, and paramilitary thing was just not something I could see myself getting involved in. I went to a few meetings just to meet folks and see what it was about, but that was enough to know that it was not a fit for me.

I was in before they switched from OD-Greens to BDUs. When that happened, I wondered what was up. When working on a SAR, the folk on the ground WANT TO BE SEEN by they observers in the air and, hopefully, the people they searching for. Why hide?

For all of the CAP hate being spewed here, I earned my instrument rating with them, learned clear boundaries when working with children (I'm not a dad so this was helpful to me), met the best pilot and one of the best men I ever knew, and took away standards & practices that helped create my flight school. It now manages, charters, brokers and all the rest. There are lessons to be learned by the best and worst among us.

The XP had the same 6 cyl Continental engine (Turbo Arrow engine without the turbo).
I flew T-41s at the Eglin Aero Club. Pretty much the same as the 172s for a lot cheaper rates! The T-41B, on the other hand, was a 172 on steroids! 200HP and a constant speed prop was awesome to fly!

FWIW, none of the CAP 172s I flew were T-41s.

I did fly a 172 that it’s warbird shop owner owner had painted in T-41 colors tho. He was special.

The civil air patrol is on the case! Wrap it up gents, we can go home now...

In case anyone doesn’t get my sarcasm, what a useless organization.
They found a needle in a haystack last year when a homebuild biplane shed its wings and went down in a cornfield in Indiana.

That said, the taxpayer isn't getting much bang for the buck from CAP. They are starting to chase jobs that do save money, like drone escort up in New York. However, I don't think their fleet of 500 planes is well utilized.

Gone are the good ole days when they were hunting U-Boats in Cubs
