Fusion Tips

There was a thread a while back for Flight Explorer tips, so I figured I'd make one for Fusion. My office has Fusion, but most people don't rely heavily on it and as a result, don't know a lot about it. I view it as a valuable tool and I'd like to learn more. Does anyone have any good Fusion tips beyond the basics? For example, is it possible to fine-tune NOTAM alerts to show only runway closures/out-of-service ILSes, etc?

When you pull up an airport profile you can have it highlight notams going back x amount of days and have it highlight for CLSD. Handy for when you have several flights in/out of the same station. Ctrl+r brings up the route screen.

Probably doesn't matter a whole lot for you RNAV capable folks, but I like the fact that Fusion will let you have the "Filed" and "Active" routes on at the same time, so if ATC gives them a weird route, you know about it .

Also like the fact that you can turn on other arrivals at a certain airport to see if any other airlines have planes holding. Allows you to be a little proactive.

I know you said you wanted something other than the basics, but I thought I'd share those tidbits because I've found those to be extremely helpful!

Referencing other airlines holding... you can set it up to have holding aircraft pop up no matter the destination or the carrier. Really handy to be able to slow your flights down or have time to come up with a new game plan.

I believe if you have your own custom desk set up with your flights loaded you'll get an alert if there's holding at any airport on your desk. I don't recall having to do anything special other than that. It's a good idea to do so anyway if no other reason than the near instant wx updates and associated alerts.

Interesting. I'll have to play with that when I go back to work Friday.

I've got the standard desk set up with all the company flights. I've played with having custom desks set up before and didn't really like it because I'd get conflicts (probably user error).

I'll have to play with it again I guess.

I was thinking about putting my tails for the day on a custom desk instead of using the standard company desk. Would cut down on alerts only relevant to me and I'm also a fan of the Dispatch Brief feature since I can see all desk airports' weather at a glance.

This works great until you get equipment swaps.
I like to force myself to flight follow so I everytime one of my AC get in the air I'll type it into the search bar to highlight it.

We just got fusion, but I cant say enough about how it is helping out with winter ops.

Those are snow plows circled in red, frickin snow plows. Just knowing they are out there working to improve breaking action is so cool.

Its fun because sometimes you see 6 or 7 in a line going down the runway making sure they are cleared off.

One thing that has been very useful to me is that Fusion updates the flight's route as soon as atc changes it, even preflight, in the flight details window. You can set an alert so you'll know as soon as your flight gets a reroute. If your flight gets a last minute cdr you can copy and paste it from Fusion to run a fuel, rather than having the crew read it off over the phone or type it all into acars.

Or you have the feature to push Send and it builds the route updates the release, and sends the flight an update. It’s pretty fantastic.
