the never ending pilot shortage story....

If the pay and QoL was better I wouldn't mind flying at a regional. Hell, for the right price I'll fly just about anything.

I have a family.

I get the sentiment. I’d flew a 150 in Texas heat low altitude for 30 years if it paid 200k a year AND THE JOB HAD STABILITY.

I just can't.
I couldn't make it to the end.

There are 125000 ATP's in the US now and they can't staff 20,000? I wonder why? And pilots receive no training between 250 and 1500 hours? And they pay out of pocket for this? I think the last time I saw so many lies in so little time was from a politician.

Every one of these chicken little stories is to add fuel to the single pilot airliner/repeal 1500/MPL fire. They know that one way or another demand is going to stabilize at some point way below the fantastical numbers they forecast.

What a load of bat guano . . . the few regionals that pay well are swamped with applications and backed up on sim training so where's the shortage there? Yes, labor costs are going up for them but that's the price major airlines will have to pay to keep their hub-and-spoke networks hummin' along. There's also plenty of pilot applications for the outfits that provide more direct point-to-point networks between smaller airports for passengers who are willing to fork extra dough to forego the cattle & radiation exposure treatment! I also find it highly suspicious that most of the studies published on this so called "shortage" are done by entities whose sole purpose in life is to try and get as many students as possible enrolled in their aviation programs

After spending time in academia, I could prove the sky was pink if the grant money was right.

Not saying good work doesn’t get done, but....

Back on the topic....it’s hysteria plain and simple. The “pipeline” works exactly as it always has...if anything, it’s quicker because pilots generally now skip flying freight or charter from 1200 to 2500 hours, which for most of history, was the norm.

Only when inflation and the rise of multiple other, more lucrative opportunities in 2006, along with the evaporation of the top end benefits at the majors did the regionals start hiring sub-1500 on a consistent basis.
