A 45-year-old Delta passenger flying from London to Salt Lake City toppled a drink cart as she raced up and down the plane's aisle and threw her coffee into the air before she was cuffed for leaping on the back of an air marshal.
Sara Maria Beach "disrupted the flight with numerous actions" and was charged on Friday with misdemeanor assault of a federal air officer following her Thursday tantrum, according to the criminal complaint cited by Fox 13.
Passenger Martin Nicholls, from London told KSL he watched as she "literally sprinted down the end" before racing back toward the opposite side of the aircraft.
He added everyone on the flight was growing "very concerned because, I thought, we're at 30-odd thousand feet over the sea. What if she tried to open the door?"
After Beach "repeatedly" bolted up and down the plane, she was seated next to the air marshal, who identified himself by showing his badge.
The rowdy passenger was "initially calm with marshals and was escorted to the bathroom three times," according to court documents. But after the third time "she jumped onto the back of one of the air marshals and placed her hands on his head neck and jaw line."
Another nearby marshal pulled her off and put handcuffs on her, which she remained in for the remainder of the flight.
Beach, an America citizen who lives in London, could face up to a year in federal prison if convicted, U.S. Attorney's office spokeswoman Melodie Rydalch told the news station.
During her initial court appearance on Friday, Beach was ordered to undergo a mental health evaluation.

The "Bifecta".

Lemme guess. Nervous flyer, got trashed in the airport bar, popped a Xanax for the trip and "peculiarity ensued".

My former bother in law (his kids be like "Yay, TWO CHRISTMASES!") would do that and I'd always warn him about doing it.

I think it’s time that a PSA is created to educate the masses why this just wont work.

Should we really, though? You kinda have to wonder how stupid someone is if they truly believe that we’ve got thousands of aircraft in the air at any given time in which any random nutcase could just decide to pull the handle on a whim. If someone is that dumb, I say we let them be dumb and wait until they get really mad on a flight, then enjoy the show as they struggle in vain trying to open it. After all, we need entertainment if the WiFi is down.
