American orders 47 787’s

But then, aren’t you also parking the 767-300s and older 330s and 777s? What is the final net fleet count?

Also, doesn’t this raise your debt service alone to $3 billion?

This is all fleet replacement. Fleet count will remain flat. There are ~50 additional 787 options. We are hearing mgt is waiting on hearing how the 787-10 is performing for others. This order raises debt. That’s probably something you’ll see when you update your fleets.

That’s what I was getting at. It’s not all just good news. If you buy 47 new planes, but park more, you are actually losing jobs. That’s bad news for pilots.

Actually no. Fleet will remain flat so same number of jobs (at higher pay with 787 paying group 4 replacing group 3 pay jobs) but ASM is what it’s all about. With planes spending more time in the air and less time in the hangar ASM is up.

That is good to hear.

I bet we get an awesome cheap deal from Airbus for A350s to take your old delivery slots!

BTw, we are updating the fleets. A350s, A330-900s, A321s and 320neos, CS100/300s.

I would think so. Seems like most are dumping the 350 for 78’s. I personally wanted to see the 350 here. I’m a Airbus fanboy. Have your orders affected your debt at all?

It has gone up, though not as much. There is a huge difference between $8 billion and $24 billion.

You act like the pilots have any control over that. In this industry you go to the first major airline that calls. We can’t all be delta commanders.

I don’t know how people are spinning this to be bad news. Higher paying 78s replacing lower paying 76s. The fleet is staying mostly flat. I’m glad we will have a viable widebody fleet for a long time to come.

Not bad news since the fleet plan stays static. That’s OK news. Fleet growth would be good news. As for debt, sure pilots can’t do anything about it but be prepared. When the economy and industry tank, and they will, the companies with higher debt will be in trouble first. Have a viable alternate income plan.

It’s just weenus measuring.

By the tine the 787s hit the line and definitely by the time they’re retired, the industry will change and there is no telling who will be on top. Find the place you fit in best and try to work there.

I have a lot of former coworkers that only want to work at Delta because “they’re the best!” They are now, but when I first started my career in ‘07 it was a different story. Nobody knows how this crazy ride will end for any of us.

I said it’s good news that lower paying jobs will be replaced with higher paying ones. But thanks for beating the delta is awesome drum in every possible thread. We get it.
