I guess it's lucky for you that your colleagues didn't have the same attitude when you were hired.

46 new hires all starting within 4 1/2 months of each other is a lot. It’s not good for the trainees either, most people hold another qual and get rolled, so you come in to train with no one to sit with and a bunch of shoulder shrugs.

Most everyone is super nice but a $2.50 override compared to our scale is chump change and the enthused guys to train have been at it since September non stop. There’s still a half if class if no xp guys and gals to come out too. It’s taking them 3-5 months if OJT.

Also overtime is just so fantastic. It really made the regional grind a Worth it.

You got yours, so now pull up the ladder, huh?

Like I said: you're lucky that your predecessors didn't have the same attitude as you.

That’s kind of the point of hiring people from the company’s perspective isn’t it?

Cheaper to pay new guys wages than OT for the rest?

Not saying I don’t agree with you by the way. If I was in your shoes I wouldn’t want it either.
Actually.... paying out OT is usually cheaper than hiring an employee to cover shifts. Benefits cost more than you would think. That being said... if you have too much OT you will run short on staffing as people get burnt out or just aren't legal.

I think you are confusing wanting to hire for the right reasons versus hiring just to cut OT. If you were making 200-300K a year with OT and management hired so many people so you could only make 150-160K a year, I think you wouldnt be happy to train someone thats being hired to essentially cut your pay. Especially with all the added risk, work and stress that goes with being a trainer for minimal extra compensation.

When you pay a sizable portion of the existing group 100-150K+ a year in OT alone plus their normal salary whereas a new hire costs 70-80K plus benefits, the monetary case is that, in the short term, that is cheaper. In the long run, I think it will hurt monetarily when there is a large group of relatively young topped out dispatchers making 90-100/hr on normal time rates.

AA is not the only carrier going through this. The WN union and dispatch group is also concerned about their hiring being done just to get rid of the OT. Where Southwest is different though is they pay a pretty good premium to their OJT trainers.

Nah bro. There are like 60+ year olds working 75+ days of OT last year. There’s no getting burnt out with fat stacks coming your. Grind.

Well yeas and no. If your goal is to work at AA dispatch and you’re not grinding at Envoy or another department in the IOC then your odds are super slim. I’m 1 of 10-12 pure externals our if 46 total from 1300+ apps. Also, I’m all for hiring more, the more behind me the merrier.

Yeash. Posting at 03am is not a good look.

Seems to me you never been a new hire or on the bottom of the seniority list with statements like that....
Taking money out of their pockets? Are you kidding me???if you cant live on 6 figures(base pay) and got the feeling new hires are taking $ out of the established Group somethings seems morally incorrect or forgotten how it was when one was a new hire in the company/group!

The shortage on trainers is in my opinion also a union problem, no incentives ,double the workload and pennies to the dollar maybe a mid contract adjustment would solve the trainer problem.

Bro your first paragraph is a silly opinion, but your totally entitled to it. A lot of these guys at the end of their career won’t have the luxury of making what we make now their whole career. People have different situations and to make blanket statements “you make 6 figures you’re a bad person to want to work extra days to make more money” is a poor way to look at the world. We all live different lives and have different goals and things we’d like to accomplish. Is it wrong for a mom or dad to want to work extra days to be able to pay for their kids college tuition? Or payoff a medical bill for a sick parent? You’re entitled to think these are whiny greedy people, but your wrong. The vast majority are just trying to put things in order and are willing to work the extra days to avoid a life they don’t want to live, and when it goes from literally being able to work any day your available to now getting skipped, I’d be a bit nervous as well. We’re all entitled to lead any kind of life we want, it’s nice however if we can not be a dick about it.

Lol you’re in the third class too? Yea tell all these old timers on the floor they’re morally wrong. See if anyone will train you after that.

For the record, I don't think you're "greedy" or anything like that. I totally understand where you are coming from and would feel the same way in your shoes.

It does seem like AA (or the Union?) ought to make some changes as to compensation for training because it is like having another job besides the one you already have.

Oh it’s not perfect. It just is what it is for the time being.
