I’m on my third cold to finish out the year. Just wondering what everyone averages per year and how long it knocks them off the duty roster each time?

I live on airborne during the winter.

I like the chewable tablets over the dissolvable ones. Costco usually has them on sale in the fall, get enough to last all winter. It won’t stop them, but makes them more manageable and of shorter duration.

A big bottle of vitamin c is a lot cheaper and the exact same thing.

I haven't had a cold in over 2 years somehow. But since I've moved to LI when a big storm comes in from the west I don't know what they bring with them but my sinus allergies go beserk. I can usually predict a heavy rain 24-48 hours in advance based on my sinuses.

I get colds once or twice a year. Can almost mark it on the calendar in late March and early November. A week to 10 days from when I first get a sore throat I’m able to go flying again. I hate calling in sick, but I will do it for a cold. It’s not cool to infect your flying partner or leave germs all over the cockpit. Do the right thing and call in. Yeah it’s typically 4-9 days before I’m clear headed enough to return to duty. I always worry during sick time about my job security as I’m the only pilot on the jet. Not that they give me reason to worry, I just have a lot of down time to think of all the conversations they’re having about how unreliable I am :/ Don’t think I am, just have no way of knowing if I get sick more than the average pilot.

Not a Dispatcher yet but I get a cold about twice a year (April or May and October or November).

This year I think our family passed around the flu on Family Christmas Day because a few days after a dozen of us got sick. Im on the tail end of it now. Robitussin helps.

When I feel like I’m getting sick, I take Zinc and Vitamin C.

Only when the seasons change do I usually take Claritin which is nice.

I’ve got two little Petri dishes running around the house so I’d say at least 4-6 colds a year. Used to be 1-2 days off usually when I was working a desk, probably be more now that I fly and am around pax with compromised immune systems.

unfortunately by the time you’re symptomatic you’ve probably already passed it on. On the other end, you’ll likely be non-contagious well before your ears/sinuses are ready to fly, but that’s more dependent on your individual physiology and symptom pattern. And whether you use a decongestant to treat the symptoms.

It’s got other things in it besides just vitamin C.
I'm sorry, buy a large multi vitamin bottle.
Airborne is vitamins for people that hate their money.
They also don't claim that it'll do anything for a cold, because they lost a false advertising suit for doing so, with no evidence that it does.
Indeed, taking a multi-vitamin has never been shown to prevent or shorten colds.

It's not literally snake oil, like say homeopathy, but to the implied claims it is.

Most of the vitamins on the market are junk. They have a small amount of vitamin and lots of filler. I buy mine online. When I get home tomorrow, I’ll look and see what brand I’ve got.
