Trump administration sides with Boeing in Bombardier dispute

Amazing... didn't Boeing just announce bonuses for employees due to tax cuts? All the CEO's are figuring out how to please the king! SAD!!

Well, Delta has been extraordinarily hypocritical here as well. Look at their vehement opposition to the Export Import Bank until they had this deal in the works....

Just calling it as I see it.

Going to be interesting to see how the ITC rules...

Regardless, a huge blow.

Wait, the Department of Commerce finalizing its own recommendation of a tariff it said was coming a few months ago is a "huge blow"? Even when everyone and their mother knew it was coming? Is it still a "huge blow" when many, including Bombardier, expects an appeal will have to be brought to the WTO after the USITC ruling in February? Is it really a "huge blow" when something happens as expected?

Yes, because this affects the timeline of the delivery of C Series aircraft to US airlines.

Airlines who are counting on those aircraft so that they can continue to modernize their fleets and reduce their operating costs accordingly.

This decision is hurting US airlines, and is affecting US jobs. Getting into a measuring contest with Canada, our second largest trading partner, doesn't do any good. Free trade is a cornerstone of a globalized world, and this is stifling what is otherwise fair competition.

I mean Jesus Christ, guys, how did we get to the point that I'm the one giving lectures on free trade and the benefits of global capitalism? Has everyone gone mad?

I agree on everything you said, but that had nothing to do with what I was trying to say. Perhaps I have mistook Seggy's tone of his post, or his views of the matter, but the huge blow was when the tariffs were first announced. Everyone was expecting this ruling to be finalized so the recent article should come as to no surprise. That was all I was trying to say.

Free trade is a great system. This wasn't free trade. Or at least that is the winning argument so far. Have to wait till Feb to find out more.

Would be funny if Delta bought Bombardier though!

The C series is a nice plane, I hope it becomes a commercial success. It deserves to be one.

Except it doesn’t matter at all since we will be delaying and getting them from the US. Thanks for playing though and keep on hating,

Continuing his positively unCANNY 100% streak of being on the wrong side of every single issue, partisanship notwithstanding.

Just because you say you are right doesn’t make you right.

Also, I just shared an article. Are you saying the article is wrong?
