Flying home from the swamp, listened to a controller on Jacksonville Center go on a 25 second rant about the whole ordeal. Something about people from Atlanta never hearing of generators and dumb contractors being allowed to do something dumb. He was clearly bashing good 'ol southern boys, couple of pilots with a deep southern draw came on after with a bit of 'tude...pretty funny.

Not pulling a muscle patting yourself on the back. ie that Delta appears to try harder than any other domestic airline on the CS front and their advertising reflects it, yet even the best laid plans and effort thrown in still can't overcome the fog of war.
This highliting how vulnerable our infrastructure is as we rely more on tech. re; self flying planes
the interviews with pax complaining about Delta even though they had nothing to do with it.
That one Frontier pilot who started the pizza party phenomenan that was all over twitter this morning.
No one died... its just hilariously amazing how a small electrical fire can bring the worlds busiest airport to it's knees.

My flight commuting to work pushed about 20 minutes before the power went out. Very fortunate.

I'm very surprised that all of their primary and backup systems run through one central location. That seems like a big vulnerability. Don't commercial buildings usually have their own generators?

My take was more like; the guy with Christian principles who normally closes on Sunday opens shop to donate his food to stranded travelers in his city. This is an admirable thing.

The blackout was caused by a fire at an underground Georgia Power facility. The heat plus toxic fumes meant it took a while to put out. There is a backup system, but the switch (for lack of a better word) was in the facility that caught fire. I believe that there are some backup generators, but I think I heard that one was under concourse c and caught fire as well. The real question is why was there only one place to change the power routing.

Clearly this only happened cuz of the "liberal" infrastructure. That's the obvious reason that makes any sort of logical sense.

I don't know, I liken it to a baseball player who goes on an impressive hitting streak, only to ruin it by striking out four times. That one bad game does not take away the streak. I've seen numerous people poke fun at Delta for advertising their cancellation streaks and I don't get it. In a business where operation reliability matters, why is it a big deal when a company uses their above average performance to gain a marketing advantage, even if they strike out occasionally?
