I'm not commenting on the accident at all.Heard that the elevator got stuck in-flight.Perhaps it snapped?
No, it really shouldn’t. Any pulley should have a guard on it to prevent this exact thing.I'm not commenting on the accident at all.
The cables running to the elevator go under the floor and there's a couple pulleys. I've had more than one time in a king air where during the control check before takeoff, a cable that is not as tight as it's supposed to be(they do stretch), jump off the pulley and jam between the pulley and the piece the holds the pulley in place. This shouldn't be able to happen in flight with the tension the elevator puts on the cables with air over it. But if you don't catch it pre-takeoff it'll be a bad day.
This can happen to almost any airplane that uses cables and pulleys to the flight controls that is not properly maintained.
Have you seen a CAR 3 airplane? Haha. No, it really shouldn’t. Any pulley should have a guard on it to prevent this exact thing.
Hm. I can’t think of an airplane I’ve been up close and personal on that didn’t have them on every pulley. Only ones I’ve ever seen jump were the trim pulleys just aft of the aft baggage on the PA32, but those were so jokey half the time the pulleys didn’t spin anyway.Have you seen a CAR 3 airplane? Haha.
That said, no the BE20 doesn't have them under the floorboards. Or at least ours didn't.
None of the old fabric pipers have them. I've never heard of one jumping unless mx was seriously neglected.Hm. When I flew corporate, as a pilot / mechanic, we had a King Air A-100. The elevator cables run under the entry door area and that area is notorious for having cracks. In a high time airplane, everyone steps there and the floor area supports can crack. Found a cracked pulley support post during an inspection, the pulley assembly, under cable tension, was just about ready to separate from the support bracket and go slack. It would have rendered the elevator useless in one direction.
The entire king air series.Damn anything like this to watch out for in a B200?
The entire king air series.
