Does time pass by fast as an Airline pilot?

Does time literally fly by when you have a career as a pilot? This is a simple question so this thread won't be long but I'm wondering if life seems to go by fast when you are a pilot?

I’ve heard life’s is like a roll if toilet paper. It gets faster and faster the further you get into it. You want a nice slow life? Bid a lot of red eyes.

I think it moves at the same rate, and as you get older time slips away.

Life is a process of things being taken from you, time is just one of them. Wubba lubba dub dub.
Thanks☺

That's a good quote but do you mean getting into it as doing things you are interested in?

Nope. Life just goes fast. Think that’s for everyone, not just pilots. I think the thing you have to be careful about as a pilot is that your whole career is looking ahead at the next best thing. “When will I get hired there? When will I hold that plane? When will I upgrade? When will I hold that schedule?” I flew with a guy retiring that month a few years ago. He said “be carful, you blink and you’re career is over.”
Slow your roll and enjoy the journey!

I used to think so when I was a line pilot. Seemed like each bid period flew by faster than the one before it. Then I left and now have an office job, and it's no different. Still flying by faster and faster. Feels like it was just Christmas yesterday, and here it comes again. Sadly, it seems to be just a part of the human condition for time to speed up as we age, regardless of profession.

32 years ago I was in New Hire Class at my new hire class at a major. After several mergers the name has changed and the uniform and paint job is different but in some aspects it is the same company and I still see many of the same people I was in that original class with.

Right after IOE on the DC-9-30, I had a captain ask me what my seniority number was. 2042, I replied, He said, "Son that ain't a number that's a damn Zip Code!"

The guys who were sitting to my right and left indoc class are still here and my initial new hire sim partner, who i just saw last week, are still here and we are all near retirement.

Of course. When you're 15, the previous year was 1/15th of your entire life and incrementally decreasing.

When you're 50, each year is 1/50th of your life and, also, incrementally decreasing.

It goes fast.

Just keep in mind that for introverts, nothing is more excruciating than a multi-hour leg with someone who feels it's your job to keep him entertained with conversation. People are different. Not everyone is a chatterbox.

Such a true statement. My favorite guys to fly with are the ones who can have an actual conversation, but where it also doesn't seem at all awkward when there is just silence for a while.

Like many things, it ebbs & flows. Overall I wouldn't give it up for anything, departing SFO this morning before sunrise looking down at those poor souls fighting traffic going to their 9-5 jobs we couldn't help but smirk and yet feel sorry for them.

Sometimes this job makes me unhappy. Then I think about having to do a 9-5. Instantly happy again.

What makes you unhappy about it?
