Who would you hire if you're the airport manager?

If you're an airport manager or a hiring manager who wants to fill an entry-level position for an airport operations coordinator who would you hire? An applicant with an AAAE certification like C.M. or ACE-Airfield Operations, or an applicant who has a pilot certificate (sport, private, commercial, CFI, etc.)? Assume they already have the same qualifications like an aviation management degree and the same aviation experience, if any.

I'd hire somebody with a background in runway construction or contracting, maybe an electrical contractor.

When things go to hell at an airport, it's often pretty boring infrastructure stuff that has failed. I would want somebody contractors feared if they fell behind schedule.

You did say entry level. Hire someone who knows how to operate the lawn mower and change lights.

I'd hire the guy with the best personality and attitude.

I would hire someone who gets things done. I do AF eq of this position for my Guard unit and it's clear to me that you need to be a self-starter with a good work ethic. Beyond the entry-level position, yeah, you need to understand the engineering aspect, but in the beginning, you need to be able to get things done for the manager. An aviation and/or engineering background is a plus, but it's no good if they don't keep up. That said, all other things equal, having actual operations certifications helps.

Working in airport management, I'd tell you 9 times out of 10 it's the guy with the certifications over the pilot, all other things similar

But pilots can do any job!!! Every single skill from being a pilot directly relates to any job that has ever existed, and will ever exist. In fact a pilot will do a job better than any trained professional in any field.

This is why there are so many pilots who have successful career as lawyers. You can find them commonly providing pro bono legal services on the internet and in crew rooms around the country.

I would take the candidate that has a C.M. if they have it.

If not, and it came down to an A.C.E. vs. a rated pilot, I would then opt to hire the pilot simply because an A.C.E. in my opinion is not worth its own weight.
