WASHINGTON - Air traffic at Baltimore-Washington International (BWI) Thurgood Marshall Airport, Dulles International Airport and Reagan National Airport are being impacted Monday evening due to an evacuation at a Federal Aviation Administration facility in Virginia.
Airport officials say the FAA air traffic control tower in Leesburg has experienced an issue from construction work at the facility at around 6 p.m.
The FAA said in a statement, "The FAA has put traffic management initiatives in place to slow flights into the Washington area airports. Fumes from construction work permeated the control room at the Washington Center, which handles high altitude flights over the area. We are actively working to fully ventilate the facility. Controllers are handling a reduced number of flights safely."
BWI Airport tweeted that a ground stop is currently in place along with a temporary air traffic management program.
BWI Marshall is in a ground stop due to evacuation of an FAA enroute center. No estimate so check with your airline concerning your flight.
