Go to flightaware and check out routes between major city pairs- they're essentially straight lines. You're not saving much money by going direct.
I'm sure over the course of a year, if they manage to bring down their fuel burns .5% because of better routings it turns into tens of millions of dollars.Go to flightaware and check out routes between major city pairs- they're essentially straight lines. You want a better route than a straight line on a domestic flight?I'm sure over the course of a year, if they manage to bring down their fuel burns .5% because of better routings it turns into tens of millions of dollars.
Then you get on the ground and wait for a gate.
But it's "greener," the airlines are just trying to save the planet [emoji6]

SWA is sending this crap out with all their emails. They have essentially laid all airline delays at the hands of ATC. SWA pilots, it's not personal, but no more shortcuts for you.
Acting like a 12 yr old and saying "no more short cuts for you pilots1!1!1" however isn't any better. [emoji849]
Hey - thanks for the helping hand as I wander in apparent ignorance like I missed some social que about why such a question leads you to believe that is ignorance. I guess you cannot divulge your trade secrets. At least rebut so anyone can see how you might even be right or wrong.
Literally just curious, and not trying to pick a fight. How specifically is the ATC system a complete joke?Controllers are awesome. However, the ATC system is a complete joke. SWA is right.
So, your beef with this is directed at .05% of the employees, to say nothing of the fact that 97% of the people on any given jet are the passengers and they are literally and metaphorically just along for the ride.
Is part of the fear of modernization the chance that a cushy gig gets disrupted?
It's not modernization that is the fear. It is privatization that is the fear. Privatization and modernization are not synonymous.
Ill rephrase. Is part of the fear of privatization that a cushy gig gets disrupted?
I hear ya buddy. It's the same as Spirit publicly blaming their pilots for cancellations so passengers get pissed at us. It all washes off though at the end of the day thoughSWA is sending this crap out with all their emails. They have essentially laid all airline delays at the hands of ATC. SWA pilots, it's not personal, but no more shortcuts for you.

Once we get that sweet NextGen installed and everybody is flying GPS Direct everywhere delays will be a thing of the past.
Oh wait, that's not how any of this works. These people act like Radar tracking is the only reason they're not just flying a straight line LAX-MIA at Mach .85 the entire way. There's not enough runways, and airlines schedule more flights into hub airports at the same time than can realistically be accommodated without some kind of delay.
People love to complain. Is the ATC system perfect? No. There are things that can be improved and be made more efficient for sure. Is giving the countries NAS away to a congressman's airline lobbyist girlfriend to be privatized the answer? I highly doubt it.
Personally it feels like all this push for "modernization" is just a very sly attempt to take away the pay and retirement benefits of a highly paid federal workforce.
Literally just curious, and not trying to pick a fight. How specifically is the ATC system a complete joke?
There has been multiple threads about the this issue.
I'd prefer the unknowns of a privatized, modernized system over what we have in our federal, antiquated system. It's not modernization that is the fear. It is privatization that is the fear. Privatization and modernization are not synonymous.
