Cujo Attacks

Someone suggested my wife buy the dog the red smock so he could travel with her to Florida a few weeks ago.

I almost became unglued and wanted to hunt that person down and probably destroy her friendship.

The ESA thing is getting out of hand. A few years ago, this lady had four right next to be in coach and they were rowdy AF.

Dood. I love how "AF" has leaked its way into all walks of life. I got an email in an otherwise professional capacity the other day that contained "AF".

Maybe the FAA can integrate into PIREPs!

63 years as a dog companion here: Airedales to Newfies, Mutts to Rotties to Pits. Being a long-term rural-boy, albeit in the Northeast, don't believe I've ever picked up a poop, though I've shared my "sit-downs" over a lifetime.

It is from that perspective - noting the unwavering loyalty, unconditional love and acceptance across years and breeds, that I note NO dog (nor pig nor goat nor tiny pony) has a need to fly except in the most extreme and rare circumstance; and, frankly, I doubt even THEN.

@Boris Badenov got it right. "Drive, take a boat" (walk or ride a bike), or simply stay at home. The wedding/graduation/even funeral will go on without one's presence, and without the associated stress on an animal, be they legitimate "support" or not. I've missed all of those events over the years personally, for varied reasons. Life goes on, in its' fullness.

Actually gonna' say a dog's "snappy" reaction to the stressful unfamiliarity of strange crowds, a tiny ERJ or CRJ, is the fault of a self-centered owner who can't see beyond the end of their own nose ... "richards," one and all, for putting a faithful companion into an overwhelming situation.

I know of a certain DOM that likes to brag that his dog is certified as an ESA with absolutely no real training and that he was able to do it online. He has no reason to have an ESA other than the fact that he's a d-bag that might try to pick up chicks using the dog. When he told me what he'd done I just shook my head and walked away. I like his dog, she might have been a good candidate for ESA, but that doesn't change the fact that his actions dilute the pool for people that actually would benefit from having an ESA. That DOM and I are not friends.

A couple trips ago I met a lady sitting at her table near the hotel bar eating dinner with other people sitting at tables eating their dinner with a dog sitting at her feet. Had the service animal smock on. Turns out, she was in a car accident. She had to go through some rehab to be able to move around the way she moved around (like me). Sounded pretty traumatic. I related my story about my motorcycle accident. (My scars are cool at parties) and the conversation was cool.
But then I thought about you guys, and I asked her about airline travel. Holy crud, she went high and to the right about the noble ness of her plight and her right to have her dog on a flight. I asked if she had to buy a separate ticket for her dog and she said no, of course not. I then queried her, where the F does your Great Dane sit? (I can't make this S up), and she commented about how I'd be surprised about how people don't mind her horse sitting on the floor in front of them in coach.
I silently contemplated the free drinks I would have commanded while her friggin pony sniffed my buttcrack for 5 hours.
I think you 121 guys should prolly make more money....

You, Sir, hit it right on the head with your post. As a dog owner myself, I would never subject my dog to the stresses of air travel. It isn't fair to her and seeing her overwhelmed by the entire experience would tear me apart

“It would perhaps not be amiss to point out that he had always tried to be a good dog. He had tried to do all the things his MAN and his WOMAN, and most of all his BOY, had asked or expected of him. He would have died for them, if that had been required. He had never wanted to kill anybody. He had been struck by something, possibly destiny, or fate, or only a degenerative nerve disease called rabies. Free will was not a factor.”

I own several dogs, one being a service dog. That is the only dog that goes out in public. After two years of training and at least 2K for all that.

Nothing more infuriating than my son's dog, sitting quietly at his feet, ignoring everybody and everything and having fake SDs and ESAs growling and barking at her.

Them feels.

My wife has a friend that pulls this scam with her little 10 lb hypoallergenic mop head dog that can easily fit under the seat in front of her. They'll start talking about it and I'll leave the room before I say something I regret.

Wow, noone is going to wait to hear the full story on this one. Although there won't be an NTSB report, I'm sure there is more to it. How did the guy get bitten in the face if the dog was in the passengers lap or on the other side? Was it the 3rd person on that row or someone that was passing by. We tell each other to wait for the details on other stories so I think the same thing should apply here.

Doesn't seem hard to figure out. The guy with the dog in his lap was sitting in the middle seat, the victim was in the window. A lab sized dog sitting in someone's lap in an airplane seat would be at eye level for the person sitting next to them so it's not hard to imagine this being possible. Considering the guy was bleeding profusely from his face and the owner was in tears, I sort of tend to doubt anyone involved is fabricating the sequence of events.

My point was there was no sequence of events pointed out in the article. Unless my reading comprehension is worse than I think.

When I was little I got attacked by my uncle's German shepherd, I was unaware that he had an ear infection and was petting him and must have hurt him, he went after me, luckily my cousin was able to pull him off and I was not seriously hurt. The dog had never been mean or attacked anyone before that.

My dog makes sure to look me right in the eye while she's crapping on my lawn. But then again she looks me right in the eye while I'm on the toilet too. Still not sure which is more creepy/unnerving.

Dogs have the ongoing "who has the stinkiest poop" contest. Which is exactly why they hate the cats.

I think it's a reasonable expectation for a passenger to assume he won't be attacked by an out of control animal on a commercial airliner.

If he was at the dog park or rooting around @DPApilot' mound of discarded fast food wrappers that he's famous for, sure, but on a jet?
