Always loved the Jetstar. For the longest time, Discount Tire had one at their SDL base. Bob Hope had one at BUR. If I remember right, they were also flight check birds for the USAF for a long time, as well as VIP transports in the 89th at Andrews.
 
Always fun to see this one on a stick at a gas station in San Luis Potosi. Looked like it was burning petrol just sitting there, even with empty nacelles. :-)

We had the C-140 Jetstars fly to Lakenheath out of Ramstein, call sign 'WAXY', to validate ATC services a couple of times a year.
 
It would be almost impossible to maintain that airplane. I've talked to people who were doing the TFE-731 conversion at Garrett LAX and from what I was told there is no SRM for the airplane and Lockheed isn't going be giving out Engineering Dispositions. Everything would have to be done referencing AC43.13 and it would get dicey with the FAA, or you could pay a DER everytime you needed to fix something structural, and you're probably going to be doing a lot of that on an old airplane that's been sitting outside for a long time. Pretty sure you could find some mid-time engines relatively cheap.

I'm pretty sure there are AD's that effectively ground it eventually.

I think even the one in Hayward that used to fly doesn't anymore.

There's is still one based in Chicago that still shows up at KVNY from time to time, I did see it within the last couple of months but I don't know what its current status is.

I saw an Iranian Jetstar a few years ago in Muscat.

Me? If I had the yen for a Jetstar a la Elvi, I'd just buy this one https://www.controller.com/listings/aircraft/for-sale/list/?manu=LOCKHEED&mdltxt=JETSTAR+II.

Then I'd rip the interior out of Elvi's and reintstall it in the airworthy bird.

Before messing with the residuum of Elvis, though, beware... he eats boats.

 
Two years ago I saw these bad boys in Istanbul, Turkey (LTBA). They looked to be in pretty good shape, would have loved to see a loud & smokey takeoff!
