CASS Question.

Hmm, maybe since your paperwork already went through, your passport is showing up renewed in CASS, despite not having the physical new one yet?
But as previously determined, idk wtf I'm talking about

Also quoted because lol pilots are cheap. Instant passport but my gas money... how long is the drive, 1700 miles?

Especially on first year FO pay here. If they want me to renew my passport in person, they are going to have to pay me to do it.

If you go to a passport center you can get your passport renewed same day as a pilot. Just have to bring in your badge and all your other passport stuff. Too easy.

SOOOOO that's the benefit the first girl I saw at the passport office in Atlanta was talking about before I actually got to the "processor." Shame, cause I had no idea. Nevertheless, it did come quickly with expedited (3 business days).

I did the expedited process through the mail only because the company will pay for the service but not for gas (to get to the appointment). I wasn't thinking about it expiring during the process, or at least the CASS situation.
Oddly enough, I am still in CASS though.

All the CASS database has is a passport number and an expiration date. If your passport is expired, you'll be denied. If you mail in your passport for renewal before expiration, the database still thinks you have an unexpired passport, so you'll still be approved. It's on the gate agent/crew/your integrity to figure out that you don't have a passport in your possession.

The passport requirement is a holdover from the days of the old green-screen DOS computers. There was no way to display your photo on the computer, so the agent would use the passport number in the database for photo verification.

Yah Betcha!
