AA Hiring

Just heard the total number they were looking for is 22 total. 6-7 furloughs are coming back and maybe one manager is going back to the floor. So maybe 14-16 positions to be filled internal/external.

I think you and most would agree with me that hopefully the 22 you mentioned is just the total for the first class or two and not the total being hired. I think most in the dispatch group including the union leadership wants 3 or 4 times that many hired.

The two people they have doing the hiring are very fair and well respected industry wide. Some of you may have gotten your dispatch license from one of the guys. If you are qualified, will be an asset to the group and are not a bad personality then you stand a good chance of being hired. I think this is the start of a hiring flood so even if you dont get hired for the first few classes, you may get hired later on. The first two classes have hundreds of people internal and external that are applying and want the job. Many people with duplicate qualifications and recommendations. It wont be easy but rest assured the process will be fair.

Couldn't agree more about the one "that may have given you a license". He trained me as an examiner. Awesome guy and truly respected.

thats this class alone
i heard it will be 70 - 80 total in the next year or so , i wouldn't hold my breath for the first couple of classes but hopefully something will change later

The union and the workload committee wants that many hired. Management has not said how many they are hiring in total. The union and workload committee number did not include from my understanding potential retirements but rather what they see is needed for covering both the current schedule and adding more desks to make the workload more manageable.

Optimism over pessimism.

The number applying and getting a license has increased because of our new contract. People who may not have applied before because of our low starting pay are applying now that starting pay is near 80K.

Catch 22, huh?

People perhaps didn't apply when they should've because it may have been a pay cut at the time. Now the pay is where they want it and the competition is more fierce.

There is definitely some of that. The big game changer was the dispatch job at AA going from decades of struggles and give backs to management to a job that is one of the highest paid in the company and with very good work rules. Many people inside the company see it as a step up now when before maybe they wouldnt have and many have obtained their license as a result. Dispatchers are also getting family and friends into the industry now in higher numbers than before as the pay has risen.

Agreed. Good money and 4 day weekends. What's not to love?

The word is starting to get around at other companies, as well. Dispatch used to fly under the radar, but that's changing at the majors, especially with the raises and profit sharing being thrown around.

Word is close to a thousand people have applied. Simply getting an interview may be an accomplishment for this round of hiring.

If they were to interview for two classes, but only hire one to start, I would think maybe 100-120 people get the call.

Tidy up your resumes.
